What Whisky/Whiskey are we drinking this month?

I know there's a thread on recommending Whiskeys/Whiskys but there's none on general tasting as far as I can see.

Similar premise to the beer thread, but we'll say month instead of week as drinking a €50/60 bottle of Whiskey/Whisky a week is probably not a good idea...

I picked up a bottle of The Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve on my travels recently. No age statement.

Not the most complex Whisky in the world. It's quite nice though, smooth and fruity, very strong taste of pears, and a tiny bit of spice. Drank with a splash of water.

The Irish Whiskey Society are having a members tasting at the end of March. Goes on sale this Wednesday at 7pm. Another one I'll be skipping as I've tried 4 of them before and have a sample of the other one.

Currently the Irish whiskey category is growing in extremely fast pace both within Ireland and worldwide, we are seeing a range of independent brands appearing on the market.

Which is why for our March tasting we would like to invite our members to experience some of the exciting whiskeys from some well regarded Independent bottlers. We are delighted to have special guests from each brand to present and guide us through their expressions.

1. Horizon - 10 yr Blend 43% ABV: matured for at least 10 years in American Bourbon casks. Expert finishing in selected Barbados Rum casks

2. Liberator Double port - Cask strength 62.1% ABV: blend with high malt content and finished in Tawny and Ruby port casks.

3. W.D O'Connell 18yr - PX - ABV 58.16%: matured in 1st fill bourbon barrels for 17 years and further 13 months in a Pedro Ximénez sherry cask.

4. CURRACH Single Malt Cask Strength Founder Cask - Wakame 58.4% ABV : finished in Irish Wakame seaweed charred casks.

5. Two Stacks - Smoke & Mirrors - Cask Strength 57% - Peated Stout Single Malt - Sherry finish and x Dot Brewing Finish.

I didn't know the back story with Waterford Whiskey until lately... Mark Reynier was the guy who bought and rejuvenated, then sold, Bruichladdich.

Any of you guys interested in the miniature 'Midleton Single Pot Still' collection.. you know the one with the four 50cl bottles of Barry Crockett Legacy, Redbreast 12 etc. .. Dunnes supermarket are doing them for €26.

Unreal value. Its cheaper to buy 14 of these than buy the 700ml bottles themselves. :pac:

Agreed. Drinkshero.com sell a 5cl sample of the Barry Crockett for €25.

They know well itll sell out at that price and then when its on the auction site in April it will be going for 150-200 no doubt.

Got the father in law a bottle of Drumshanbo pot still for his birthday. Have to say it is a really eye catching box and bottle, looks very striking and luxurious.

As a company they make thier product and bottles very catching which is I suppose is an important thing in a busy market.

Am a tad jealous so will be getting myself one soon enough.

I ordered a sample of it when I ordered the gift. Found it very nice and subtle, needless to say I will have to sample more to get a full feel of it. However I look forward to getting a bottle myself

I had a Connemara Peated last night. Very tasty indeed, not knock your socks off but enjoyable none the less. I will admit I've not had huge exposure to peated stuff, I'd pick up a scotch then buy an Irish instead.
