Today being Paddy Day 2020... when do you think we will have a ‘flu jab’ / pill / syrup that we can take to make us immune/ les likely to catch this 19 virus?.

Mod: The purpose of this thread is baked into the title - COVID-19: Vaccine/antidote and testing procedures - it's not a platform to push an anti vaccination agenda. Apologies for going off subject here, but I agree completely. Today was a step too far for me. Now RTE might well claim that they are broadcasting these stories to inform the public. However, the sceptic in me would suggest that RTE are abusing their position as primary news outlet for people and are publishing these stories to (a) instil fear [for whatever reason] and (b) generate traffic for themselves - is it any coincidence that the NPHET press briefings happen to align with the 6.1 news everyday.

I fail to see the relevance of the mink story to the vast majority of the population here. Unless it actually becomes a problem and not a potential one, why do the general public need to know about it? It is all the more frustrating in a week when there has been a lot of positive vaccine news. Yet RTE seem determined to nullify that. Pricks.

My main interest on this thread is on the progress on vaccines. Know it's a side road but are the 3, (thought there were 5) now going to be compensated, I would think so, since the Dept of Ag will be approving it? The owners may be as happy to get out of the industry.

I don't think the wild population pose as much of a threat, it was the overcrowded conditions and the proximity of humans with the virus which caused the problem on the farms.
Mink in the wild, like most wild animals, are unlikely to approach people and they are not the cuddliest of animals so I doubt you'll be wanting to pick them up and stroke them.

Pride hurt more than anything. I can see the funny side. Would happily volunteer for any of the leading vaccines all the same. We probably don't have enough virus prevalence for them to bother with Ireland.

There's no further layer of HSE approval required after that is there? The EMA approval is the final line? Please say so. I don't want it delayed any further.

As far as I'm aware seeing as we're signed into the EU vaccine group that once EMA give the go ahead there's nothing in terms of approval needed here, its an EU wide approach

We are producing more food in many places we have cheese mountains etc. It is a little 2 simplistic to just say the will ain't there. How will we make sure it gets everywhere. How will it be paid for. How will we make sure it will be done properly. All questions for a different thread though

To be exact, the EU commissioner said the "second half of December" (rather than mid December) for potential "conditional marketing authorisation".

As I said, may have EUA. Article I read last night had as I said, perhaps the wording has changed since then in the articles.

Either way as I said its once all goes to plan they may have EUA in December, from the middle of Dec would be the second half in my book.

Anyway its good news, getting closer

So according to RTE here, there's no deal signed with Moderna yet. I believe they've got a deal with the US already. Given that Moderna have a bit of a bottle-neck on production, much more so than Pfitzer, are we potentially not going to get as much as hoped if we'd signed an earlier deal?

The agreement is there for the supply of 160m, deal to be formally signed shortly as per EU last week.

For example the Pfizer deal was agreed back in August and signed recently.

Once you conclude the talks takes a while to get the final contract signed.

As for delivery there'll be plenty of hurdles to jump, not least that we've to have our own house in order for rollout

I'm hoping ( and currently pricing) or annual holiday to Portugal next September. That's my aim. Trying to give us something to look forward to.
