Today being Paddy Day 2020... when do you think we will have a ‘flu jab’ / pill / syrup that we can take to make us immune/ les likely to catch this 19 virus?.

Two completely different companies. Pfizer are an established company with a whole suite of product lines. Moderna are a startup who are just proving their primary unproven product. Pfizer’s market cap is 6 times that of Moderna and Moderna’s has grown 4.5x this year alone.

AZ/Oxford and J&J might be able to do this with a single shot in the younger population. The mRNA constructs don't seem to do so well on a single shot.
If the mice experiments are anything to go by then the elderly population will absolutely need the two shots even from J&J and Novavax.

Theranos springs to mind for me! It is kind of funny that on Wikipedia, when you go on the Theranos page, it highlights other companies people search for; "WeWork, Enron and Moderna" are included. It is just a healthy skepticism, the proof will be in the pudding.

Yes. That's why it's important the regulators reviewing their data are independent. They've also partnered with Lonza who are a big Swiss pharma for the actual manufacturing. It's not Moderna saying the trial was successful, it's the independent monitoring board.

First of all its Pfizer and BioNtech.

BioNtech have risen significantly.

Pfizer have 100 other products. If their vaccine works it's just one more a few % extra revenue especially after BioNtech take their share.

Moderna have less other products so the vaccine would have a bigger effect.

Moderna CEO. Particularly excited about the severe Covid results - 11 in the placebo group, but none in the vaccine group. Hopes it will hold with a bigger number of cases. They hope to get the final study results in not too distant future as Covid cases are increasing.

To me this basically reads that both the Pfizer/BNT and Moderna vaccines are roughly in the same ballpark of efficacy (~95%-ish).

He hasn't enjoyed being pushed on things like timeliness, but how much of that was trump hollering about pre-election vaccines for all is debatable, so, to me at least, him coming right out and saying 2 vaccines will be rolled out before the end of the year is pretty definitive..
