What were the age ranges of these people? and how many people in that 43,000 had the virus to begin with? If nobody had the virus to begin with and the age range of the participants was 20-80, 90% is worse than the natural recovery rate for this sample in the real world.

Rather than the people involved in a trial are divided into 2 randomly. Half given the vaccine and half given a placebo. Roughly 85 people in the placebo group have gotten covid compared to roughly 9 in the vaccinated group. They suggest this means that 90% of the people from the vaccinated group did not get covid because of the vaccine.

Can you give us a timeline on regulatory approval for skipping this phase of the trial and running challenge trials instead - if apparently you think it a better solution. The number of ppl that would be enrolled in a challenge trial would be a fraction of the current phase.

Firstly this is good news. 90% effective! Give people the vaccine and give people placebo and see how effectively it works. But if the question is how effective is it in preventing people from getting sick who are infected, its a good question. 80% of people recover from this virus anyway with no symptoms or minimal symptoms. So it's this vulnerable population, how well will it work for them? How likely will it prevent them from getting sick? How long does it last? These are still unanswered questions. Is the vaccine going to be a yearly thing? If it's two shots, how long after you get the second shot will you have immunity? An entire season? (
