Be grateful for any progress whatsoever. Cork Co Co do exactly fcuk all apart from speed bumps in rural villages.
Is there a route plan for this short section? How much are they planning on cutting off from the hairpins? The straighter the road the higher the road will have to be. Very interested to see how it turns out
Right, so more like this route.
It's a pity they are building this so incredibly slowly. Glacial pace altogether.
Ah, good man.
The article only says that the €3.6 million is a local contribution towards the project, it makes no mention of the total cost.
I was thinking that, too.
I am not an expert on such matters, sadly; perhaps someone else might have an idea?
Perhaps it's because the land up there is much cheaper?
That'll be nice to have. Will 3 million be enough though? Seems like a very hilly area, would have thought it would be more expensive.
No, I'm afraid not.
It's from the end of the most recent scheme near Banogue Hairpin, to the west side of Anascaul.
It will remove the next two awful hairpins.
It's hard to determine where Ballygarret to Ballynasare is; Google Maps reports multiple conflicting locations for Ballynasare.
It says only 3 million allocated which sounds like a short scheme. However I'm hoping the actual route is this, am I right?
Been off a while, any progress?
Tender in Q4

Indeed, leaving a few short gaps of decent SC on the N21, which will hopefully be filled in in due course.
(Not holding my breath...)
Events are ahead of your plans for the N/M21. The M21 from the end of the current M20 to Rathkeale, with the spur from Rathkeale to Foynes forming the Limerick to Foynes Road project is already before ABP. The decision is due in October. The thread is here
Route options have already been released for the proposed bypasses of Newcastlewest and Abbeyfeale and the first round of public consultation for each is already closed. The are threads for both .
Newcastlewest thread
Abbeyfeale thread https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2057826816/www.n21abbeyfeale.ie (For some reason I can't do a third hyperlink).
Great idea, but I believe the best we'll get on the N21 beyond Rathkeale will be Type 2 Dual.
Love the name of it, by the way
😀
I've had a brilliant idea not related to my post above.
I have a few pictures of strip maps I hand drew in a notebook. One of them had a scheme for the M21.
Coupled with the N86 works, if they do an M21 extension to Tralee that would be great for Kerry.
I've even though of a really bureaucratic name for it: the Strategic Southwest Motorway Plan(SSWMP).
Part 1(M20 extension, needed to make M21)
Part 2(the M21 itself)
Well, better get down there with the camera!
Me: (remembers I live in Westmeath with no reliable transportation)
Bugger.
Great news, sounds imminent.
I noticed today that the temporary car park and container-type offices etc have been removed from the eastern end of Annalack bends (first acute bend coming from Dingle) and the area levelled. There's no sign of anything at the previous site on the western side either. It's now all clear and ready for work by machines, whenever that may happen.
Looks like there was a holdup with archaelogical work during the lockdown in early 2021 according to the Council here: http://docstore.kerrycoco.ie/KCCWebsite/meetings/castle/minutes/mar21.pdf
At a guess that would mean a tender issue in Q3 2021 unless some other speed bump has been hit. The advance works is very visible along the N86 between the end of the recently complete Ballynasare section and Annascaul village now.

The deep ravine at 2.08 in the video, is the new road going straight across it? Serious amount of fill required if so!
