Has anybody here heard Dr Vernon Coleman's thoughts on COVID-19? I don't know much about Dr Coleman, but I watched a few of his videos on YouTube.

The title of this thread does pose an interesting question, is the world overpopulated and becoming unsustainable?

Bear in mind the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, set in 2010 (and reviewed every 5yrs) have (all x20) announced last week, missed their planned targets.

I remember this Coleman fella had a column in one of the UK tabloids back in the 80s/90s. I particularly remember an article he wrote scaremongering about ecstasy when the rave scene was taking off. He said ecstasy triggered terrifying hallucinations eg if you've a fear of spiders you'll think spiders are crawling all over you, if you've a fear of rats you'll think hundreds of rats are coming for you etc...

Well Dr Coleman, I took quite a bit of ecstasy in the 90s and never had anything but a brilliant time on it. Therefore I can only come to the conclusion that Dr Vernon Coleman is full of sh!t.

I disagree that the average person has no influence on this. they could stop having large families. Traditionally families were large because of high infant mortality rates. Improved vaccinations for childhood diseases can persuade people that large families are not required. as can improvements in education and general healthcare. you can see this yourself in Ireland. I have 6 siblings and that is not a large number for families of my generation. nowadays it is practically unheard of. Improving healthcare and reduction in poverty levels has lead to that decrease in family sizes in ireland. we need to be doing the same for those countries outside the first world.
