Point being you're absolutely no basis for making that statement.

You cannot guarantee you will always be 2 metres from other people.
You cannot guarantee you won't inhale droplets produced by another person speaking, coughing, sneezing in an indoor space - if the ventilation isn't great, the droplets can hang in the air. You may have been 2 metres from the person at the time but you're not 2 metres from their droplets as they walk around the shop ahead of you.

It's a respiratory virus. Perfect hand sanitisation technique won't help if you have inhaled infected droplets.
And you can't sanitise your respiratory system after exposure like you can with hands\surfaces.

You'll have to share this 'advice' to be taken seriously.
Lots of doctors and virologists not paid for by the state have also been calling for masks.
Besides, even if they are paid by the state, it is the evidence they have presented which is important.

If there was a conspiracy theory when it came to this virus, it was the attempts by the Chinese authorities to downplay human to human respiratory transmission of this virus and present it as primarily spread by surfaces\contact.
Also, the authorities in the West due to a lack of PPE downplayed the benefits of masks.

Why should I bother listening to any government advice while this is going on? I mean, we’re all heading for another lockdown either way. It’s a complete and utter waste of time.

Maybe you wearing a mask and requiring everyone else, including those new visitors to the country, to also wear masks will help slow down the transmission from them then? Hows that for an idea?

What is your alternative way to slow the spread down if these people are clearly entering the country anyway, people are going back to work, people are going back to shops and people are interacting with each other more than they were for several months. Is your only alternative to lock everyone into their houses, or can you maybe think of a way that people can leave their houses and at the same time limit how many people they might infect from breathing on them by...I don't know... putting something over their mouth and nose to prevent the flow of their breath over others?

As with the posts by a few on the megathread who praised the authorities for withholding information about infections in supermarkets, we are supposed to accept that the authorities can tell lies whenever they want if they think they have good reasons for doing so, and simultaneously trust them and believe what they say and that they wouldn't lie. Does anyone see the contradiction here?
