How many people on Boards have a mask and if so are you wearing them for essential trips? And this late in the day where can you get one that is going to be half decent and not from a suspect seller who could have done anything to it?

I had the opposite experience in my local Lidl yesterday, staff were all wearing masks, but I'd say only about 25% of the customers were.

No. It's sold as a success, by the government (especially the previous one), by the media and by the people who don't look at details or apply scrutiny.

If you look at the details, for example ECDC data on cases and mortality you'll find that Ireland cases per capita and deaths per capita are both in the bottom of the league in the EU. That's hardly a success. You can call it a success only when comparing with the UK which is absolutely abysmal.

Czechia which closed borders and masked up early - 4 times less cases per capita and 10 times less deaths per capita.

Finland which closed borders early and socially distanced hardly - 3 times less cases per capita and 5.5 less deaths per capita.

Similar Norway, Greece, Austria, Denmark. And so on.

Given that I really welcomed the leadership and several hard decisions the new government has made quickly in succession, very pleasantly surprised. Sadly the previous government didn't have this courage in April, it would have saved billions and hundreds of lives.

Back from local Dunnes, 95% compliance. Thumbs up. Unmasked are the odd ones now and will be the centre of attention - ignore and avoid at a large distance.

Staff not so great, maybe 80%.

Just witnessed an anti mask protest go by my apartment with RTE Fake News on one banner and something about vaccines on another.

I'd be worried about the level of stupidity but there was only a small group, so leave them at it. Let them have their shout.

What would people do if you took a job where you were told that masks are worn and then turns out they aren't being worn?

I can't walk out from a job either because I'm not entitled to receive social welfare. But I don't feel safe either.

They're way, way cheaper to manufacture and re-use than masks so naturally businesses will substitute them, unless customers /staff / insurers say not good enough.

But visors are pretty useless on it's own, not gonna say completely. Might be kinda good if somebody coughs directly to your face, but even in that scenario...run
