I'm grateful for the owner he is, non interfering but always supportive. We've taken huge steps forward these past 10 years. It was a learning curve for him too.

To be fair, that video is literally John saying thank you to Jurgen and the staff and players for doing it.

He says: "To the staff, to the players, to all of you who have expended so much effort over these last two years, I just want to say thank you from all of us at Fenway Sports Group. I know you get this from your fans, but I don't know if you get it from us enough. But we really appreciate everything you did in these last two years. Thank you."

Think that is a bit harsh on John Henry and we wouldnt be where we are now without him. The guy is a genuine sports fan and he wants to win trophies. Id take him over the Glazers and Ed Woodward any day of the week, they just want 4th place and CL football and they're happy with that. Henry actually wants to win stuff.

Didn't the club try to furlough staff a few months ago, doubt those they tried that with would agree with your sentiment.
Everything about the owners rings a bit hollow as the club is clearly an investment for them. They are probably sickened this financial crisis hit when it did as the club has probably reached the peak value before covid hit.

There isn't a single other club in the world that has better owners. They're not perfect but they're miles better than every other club.

I get the feeling Klopp doesn't want another big name striker. He values team morale too highly. While the team behaves like mentality monsters he'll be very careful who he brings in. He could have made pushes for pulisic, knowing how good he is but he didn't. He doesn't seem interested in hoovering up talent, he wants to build a cohesive team.

On full pay... Not a single Liverpool employee would have gone unpaid, or even had a pay cut had that gone through.

The question was never around the treatment of Liverpool staff, it was on the general morality of a football club using a government subsidy to pay some of the wages. Some people thought at the time it was tax-payers money (which it wasn't, it was freshly minted money being injected via the Bank of England to replace the money lost from the stock market crash - some worry it'll ultimately come out of taxes in the long run, but that will only happen if the market recovers enough that the lost money reappears. otherwise, it just balances the value of the pound to stop deflation). Some other people thought it was just a program for small businesses, but it wasn't for that either, it's been used by tonnes of massive companies far richer than Liverpool. Ultimately, the main reason why people were annoyed, and why they backed out, is cause it looks bad. Clubs are seen as 'more' than businesses (despite all evidence to the contrary over the life of the Premier League) so it was a PR failing more than a business/morality one.

You've a really cynical view on probably the best owners in the league....

Just different circumstances. Chelsea had a huge cash surplus. They had a huge influx between Hazard and Morata's fees coming in, as well as a ridiculous amount through their sales of loanees. Thanks to their transfer ban, they got lucky with timing, in that they have money burning a hole in their pockets at exactly the time that most clubs are struggling. It seems like you're quite angry over things that are just taken for granted by everyone. Of course its an investment, I don't think anyone ever thought, or suggested otherwise. But it's an investment they've handled very considerately and intelligently, for the good of the club itself. They could have leveraged against it, like H&G or the Glazers, but they didn't. They could've asset stripped and bled it every chance they get like Ashley, but they don't. They've raised the clubs value through good management across the board in every aspect of the club. That's a good thing. Maybe they'll sell it, maybe they won't. Though with its current value, it's more likely they might sell small pieces of it instead, recouping more than what they spent while still maintaining over 51% and a solidly performing asset. Or who knows, maybe they'll ultimately float it on the stock market.

Seems you're happy to give loads of credit to Klopp and Edwards, but not the people who brought in Klopp and Edwards, and gave them the tools, responsibility, and freedom to do their jobs. Good management is finding, and growing talent, and giving it the opportunity to shine, which is very much what they've done with Edwards who has been promoted 4 or 5 times over the past 10 years. He came in as an analyst with Comolli, but while Comolli was dumped, Edwards was rewarded, and thrived. And it's also enticing and headhunting the best around, which they did with Klopp.

Your unhappiness with them gives me the impression of someone who is annoyed that the sun doesn't exist to warm them, despite the fact that it warms them all the same.

Maybe we need the type of owner who’ll show up bare chested and singing with the fans?

Does anyone really care about their supposed affinity for the club if they’re doing the right thing by it? There have been missteps along the way but they rescued the club, made it self sufficient, brought in the best manager in the world when the previous one turned us into a laughing stock, backed him with world class players in multiple positions and talents he wanted that he could turn into world class players. They’ve redeveloped the stadium, the built new training facilities. We won number 6 under them and ended a 30 year wait for the league. Hard to see what else they can do.

Yeah they’ll sell at a time to maximise their profits but good luck to them and all I care is that they sell to people who continue on in the same vein they have.

Presumably this is just a panic response to Sancho/Werner signings.
Neither of those clubs will be winning the league for years. It would be nice to have a "statement" signing to provide a lift in these quiet days but I'll trust those who know the plan.

The decision to furlough was more than likely taken in the UK by Edwards and yes PR was a factor in reversing the decision and that decision was more than likely taken in the USA by Edwards bosses, and speaking of miracles why would the bosses let such a miracle worker walk after 3 years? Again some PR here in he reasoning for Edwards going, contract up so we decided to let a miracle worker go and not try to keep him?

Its a big difference as we are looking for back up in the forward positions, It means we can't spend as much and some people aren't willing to come to be back up players

If Salah or Mane where leaving this summer you can be sure we'd be in the market for big players like we where when we needed a CB and GK

We just got to trust the boss and owners

That's every deal though. Every brand that pays Liverpool money does so with the intention of making that money back from Liverpool fans. Like the Carlsberg and Erdinger commemorative cans.

And conversely, every time Liverpool as a club sells themselves to a brand for partnerships, they're selling the fans. The fans (us) are ultimately their chief product. The more successful they are, they more of that product they have to negotiate with.

This is why stuff like that furlough thing didn't really bother me, as I accept that at the top level, sports clubs are businesses first and foremost. They do good things in their community from time to time, and that's a bonus, but the primary concern in how they're managed is to provide entertainment and escape in exchange for money and some degree of emotional affinity.

Well this is it isn't it - our top players haven't even reached their peak and will not be leaving, so I'm resigned to the fact that FSG just aren't going to do what City have already been doing in the window since it opened.

I'd be lying though if I said I didn't find it a little disconcerting. Growing up I remember Ferguson's team being in tip top shape but it never stopped him from dipping into the market and adding one or two big signings every summer.

I guess he didn't trust his team to stay competitive amongst themselves while Klopp does, and I suppose I can live with that. :pac:

I think Fergie only seems like that because he was there for 26 years,
Only last summer was quite for us since Klopp come in, he's singed some amazing players in 5 seasons,
