Herd immunity in India would mean several million dead minimum, due to poverty, poor governance, corruption etc. Not an option.

See the actual argument by most who disagree with mask wearing is that the virus is mild and won’t effect them. Literally the amount of time they spend arguing about the reasons not to wear one is longer than the amount of time it’s required.

It’s not required walking down the street.

It’s not required driving your car.

It’s not required in the great wide open.

It is required on public transport.

It is required in enclosed spaces where social distancing isn’t easy like a supermarket or a shop.

The reason that someone may make a mistake about how to wear a mask is a legitimate concern. But not a reason for people to espouse not to wear them Carte Blanche. I wonder what percentage of people wearing masks just to avoid hassle and then not following other advice like going to parties. I'd say 8/10 keep wearing the same old mask everytime without washing it.

Huge differences in shops when it comes to masks , my local super value started off fantastic in adhering to guidelines a few months back, now the sanitiser is nearly always empty no enforcement of distance in shop and no extra as far as I can see cleaning process.. staff not wearing face covers and quiet happy to stop and chat to whoever.. and the thing is some locals are praising them for easing back on the guidelines. Already two members of staff have had Covid and this is one of the worst affected counties.
In contrast to a smaller shop yards away who insists on masks and are adhering to guidelines as much as possible and who are getting ridiculed on social media for asking people to wear masks so much so in fact certain people on Facebook have asked people to boycott the shop on the grounds that shop has no legal right to force you to do anything. The mind boggles at some people’s attitude at being asked to do anything.
The shop owner has quite rightly come out and said he is protecting staff and more vulnerable customers and the shop probably wouldn’t survive if an outbreak did happen as he only has 4 staff members and that all staff would need to self isolate.

Washing up liquid wouldn’t really be any better than laundry detergent and may be more irritating to skin. They design these products to wash clothes, not dishes, so they’re generally very safe to use with fabric that’s in contact with your skin.

The main thing is just rinse everything very well.

If you want to use anything, a good quality liquid hand soap might be safer than dishwashing liquid.

If it were me, I would just throw them into the machine on a cotton cycle (with the short / time saver or similar option) set and just forget about them. It will do a very good job of removing anything.

The main issue with laundry detergents tends to be the lingering scents though. If you’re very concerned, there’s a product by Unilever called Neutral, which you can order easily enough online. It’s entirely scent free and is very popular in Scandinavia and cleans as well as Persil.

Also Ecover Zero should be available in a lot of shops and is extremely effective and has no scents and is very skin friendly.

It’s impossible to get everyone to apply all the recommendations correctly. It’s impossible. And even if it was possible the virus according to you would not guarantee the end of a lockdown. So why is this the main selling point by the government for eventually getting out of the lockdown.
I agree with the recommendations. The lockdown is causing more harm than good in countless ways, with the full effects yet to be seen.
Follow the recommendations. End the lockdown.

Ive been washing mine by hand with hand soap or liquid soap after each, albeit infrequent use. Since the soap acts on the ?fats on the virus surface I felt that this was an OK way to go. Now Im not too sure!!

Firstly the post of mine you quoted was in response to someone asking a question with the preface that all measures I had previously posted were followed.

Secondly we are not in a lockdown. If you think we are, please explain.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss masks. It’s a mitigant to decreasing transmission and not a silver bullet. Not one person who promotes wearing masks has said otherwise. Countless times I have seen anti mask debaters say, why wear them because it won’t cure the virus. That’s not an argument.

Again, every reasonable person here is saying, in enclosed spaces where people are, wear a mask. Nothing more, nothing less. Stop with bullsh1t arguments and cop on. If you are saying that not wearing a mask helps stop the virus being transmitted, all I can say is I hope the legally mandated carer that person has puts the mask on them. (I’m not saying that is you)
