I don't know why anyone would seek to score points on something like this which may have been the cause of someone getting vivid because of a lack of protection. Why did Murphy claim this and did FG refuse to help them just because SF asked? I hope GF would not stoop that low.

Is this really an issue? If there had been a joint order made there would be a high possibility of the RAF delivering it and the RLC/BA (could also be the irish army but not enough small minded people to make an issue of that if it were the case) distributing it, which would send SF into a tail spin. Like when the suggestion of the BA delivering life saving equipment was raised not to long ago. The RAF would not have been flying in PPE from China to Ireland. Why would the RAF be used when Ireland is the world's capital for airline leasing and indeed one of the leasing companies was raising money to bring in PPE to Ireland along with Bono and that fellow from Cork who is known in the States as Mr China.

I thing it was the transport companies who kicked up most fuss about using BA transport when they were all lying idle in their garages, but my, if you think bringing in the BA to do a job that they were not needed to do, then you are clueless. Likewise it would have been insensitive to the unionist community to have Irish Army trucks deliver PPE to NI.

There was no need to bring in BA trucks from GB when there is a whole fleet of commercial trucks local and who needed work. People were not going to die because of a lack of transport for PPE.

RAF has been delivering PPE for other parts of the UK. One of the main limitation of the irish gov at the moment is the lack of a military air lift capacity hence the direction recently to the Defence Forces to look into trying to purchase such a capacity by maybe getting some c130s. As for the use of the defence force a unionist minister has said if they could help he would welcome them. SF on the other hand playing the usually crap. You want a one island approach then act like it and accept how that will work which if there is a second spike and things get bad would mean working with then British military. Personally I would be happy to see that. But still lots of small minds out there even though it is 2020.

Wasn't the issue about some troops being stuck in the Lebanon because they had no transport back?. Those C130s planes wouldn't have had the range to fly to China anyway (I believe the RAF used them to go to Turkey and they probably had to stop off in some British airbases to even make that trip).

From my recollection of what happened - the unionist minister sounded panicked and wanted to get the army to build a hospital like the one in London (that wasn't used) way too early.

The British military were not necessary, so the right decision was made. As you will note there were plenty of complaints from transport companies in Northern Ireland that were willing and able to provide transport.

Logicistally, it would have been easier to fly PPE directly from China into Dublin and distribute by road from there. What was happening was that it was going to a distribution centre in London by plane and then either put on another plane or sent by road to Northern Ireland - all adding a couple of days of getting the PPE to them.

The North /South dynamic has changed a great deal post Gerry.
There was always a 'we are a one island party' whereas they were in effect 2 parties, one North and one South.

In the southern media SF has gone very quiet on rubbishing Northern Ireland, a thing they used to do a lot, I suppose if you're in power in a place you can't be rubbishing the place.

So Blanch, I see the infamous PPE has eventually arrived in Northern Ireland just now from China, which seems to have taken since March for NI to organise. I hope no one died in NI because Simon Harris/Irish officials refused to help them source PPE, bearing in mind that we all know that the British Government couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery when it comes to Covid-19.

To date, he is the only person who seems to know about this agreement.

What an unbelievable passing of the buck.

There was a government in Northern Ireland with a Finance Minister named Conor Murphy in charge of procurement who completely failed at his job.
