Relaxation of restrictions

Red Alert

Simon Harris curiously made a comment that there was a limit to how long people could put up with extreme level of restrictions as we currently have. Already we’re seeing in Italy that people are starting to get restless. So two big questions:

1) on Easter Sunday, do you think there will be further restrictions, no change with just an extension or some relaxation?

2) what will be the first thing rolled back?

My own guess would be: extension for at least 1 week. Then to allow some businesses like DIY shops to reopen, perhaps allow gatherings of 2/3 people, maybe a token increase on 2km.

I wouldn’t say it’s useless. He’s cautiously optimistic and hopeful that some restrictions will be lifted by May 5th. I think he’s right not to say too much either way as people will cling too much to that and then use it as a stick to beat him with if it doesn’t follow through. He’s optimistic and I think a lot of people will feel reassured tonight that there is an end in sight if the figures don’t increase. He would be mad to commit to an answer one way or the other two weeks too early. That’s the shlte Trump comes out with and then retracts a day later having made an almighty fool of himself

He just doesn't want to give false hope. We all saw what Harris giving opinion did, so if Leo puts dates or details on things now before a plan is released and we dont meet the dates then people just go up in arms. It's a cautious approach

I do, and I had a blast, but that was back in the day when the parish priest and the neighbours watched your every move.

Little more clarity on the exit plan, albeit hes short on detail, looks like we'll be given phases and each phase has criteria that needs to be achieved in order to move onto that stage. Review every 2 weeks or so.
Will be an interesting plan to read when its released

It does. My youth is well behind me but I do remember it fondly. Well done to the youth today for following these guidelines till who knows when, protecting the vulnerable that were never expected to do it themselves

That and the problem is primarily focused on care/nursing homes, and staying within 2km of your own home wont make any difference to that fact

I live in Dublin but from Munster - to be honest there is a fair amount of business open and trading which is great.

is that different elsewhere.

My parents are cocooning so heading out isnt an option for them.

Miss my family bigly (lol). I really do. but we cope.

But even when we can meet up again, there will be an element of distance for a long time I think.

How our lives have changed over four or five weeks all the same. It all happened so quickly.

butchers and bakeries are still open - well where I live anyway

I have been following this thread with interest. working from home has its limits entertainment wise

I posted before what I would like to happen - see my family and friends i.e. remove the 2km restrictions.

agree certain shops and businesses reopen to the public

I posted before about what remains open in my locality - just to recap

shops
doctors and chemist
hardware shop
building suppliers
coffee shops

other are delivery/collection only but I include restaurants and some pubs in that. Amazing really.

You might as well open all shops. There's no point in distinguishing between butchers, bakers and candlestick-makers.

Well all IVF treatment has been cancelled, which I'm sure is causing a lot of further heartache out there as well.
