Relaxation of restrictions

Red Alert

Simon Harris curiously made a comment that there was a limit to how long people could put up with extreme level of restrictions as we currently have. Already we’re seeing in Italy that people are starting to get restless. So two big questions:

1) on Easter Sunday, do you think there will be further restrictions, no change with just an extension or some relaxation?

2) what will be the first thing rolled back?

My own guess would be: extension for at least 1 week. Then to allow some businesses like DIY shops to reopen, perhaps allow gatherings of 2/3 people, maybe a token increase on 2km.

I didn`t see the Prime Time programme you refer to here but she was anything but hysterical on SOR today. Very calm and measured in her comments.

I honestly don't think people will be rushing out just becuase the pubs are legally open. Lots of people are genuinely terrified of getting this Virus and will continue their own isolation measures. Also there's not going to be tons of money going around tbh.

doesnt make them any more valid especially if her preferred course of action is predicated on a vaccine that may never materialise.

The 10th to 18th April has the German lab results from older tests. We should see the cases/day fall to under 400 this week I expect.

Maybe under 300 before the start of the May bank holiday, we are on a decent footing to ease restrictions but any decent % of fncktards going mad will ruin in.

I agree. There seems to be a variation of Stockholm Syndrome taking hold. Rather than rushing out, a lot of people are going to have to be persuaded out.

I understand that point of view, but I never felt it was the right thing to do. A poster said, I think yesterday, that his five-year-old was afraid to go outside for a walk as the air was poisoned. I genuinely thought that was the saddest thing I have heard since this began.

Secondly, remove all high stools from along the bar and allow service area at the bar only.

Thirdly, instruct security to only allow in whatever number of people are permitted under whatever regulations are in place.

Finally people will start going to bars off peak, even if its just for an hour or two on a week night, hence less crowding.

Pubs, restaurants and their customers are entitled to a fair chance to if they can run responsibly.

If its a disaster then change the arrangement.

I saw that appearance, she was fine, gave clear and concise advice, her tone was serious and gave appropriate weight to the situation. She should be praised.

Which is why people with attitudes like the poster you replied to will in all probability be the cause of a surge in new cases and ICU admissions/deaths if the schools are reopened in the next few weeks.

Yeah, I suppose everyone interprets what they hear differently. For the HSE/Government, it's that balance between scaring people and encouraging them to be responsible.

Didn't hear anything- just a hunch that the state can't maintain welfare at these levels. Probably even higher levels of applicants than initially thought or planned. If some businesses can reopen it will ease the pressure somewhat.

It's the testing. You need another column there with testers per million. Iceland at the top is highly suspect as an isolated European nation, i bet they have done massive testing. If you test you'll find it.

The kind of person who thinks, "I should be allowed take the risk to get infected if I choose to", is the same person who will refuse to self-isolate if they do get sick.

Basically we are testing less but the tests are returning a higher number of infected

No one should get a free pass, but travellers do because don't seem to have the systems in place to deal with their abuse of the laws. There was nothing the Garda could have done when they arrived given the circumstances, is all I'm saying.

Its who you test though.

The early stages here every hypochondriac was being tested.

Now we are contact tracing, nursing home patients, healthcare staff IE getting the right people and isolating them.

Which is excellent.

I posted the tests per million in another post
Ireland isn't testing as much as the countries in that list, and yet we are seeing in an increase in total cases per million

Iceland shouldn't be compared to the rest of Europe because they tested a third of the entire population
