Relaxation of restrictions

Simon Harris curiously made a comment that there was a limit to how long people could put up with extreme level of restrictions as we currently have. Already we’re seeing in Italy that people are starting to get restless. So two big questions:

1) on Easter Sunday, do you think there will be further restrictions, no change with just an extension or some relaxation?

2) what will be the first thing rolled back?

My own guess would be: extension for at least 1 week. Then to allow some businesses like DIY shops to reopen, perhaps allow gatherings of 2/3 people, maybe a token increase on 2km.

We can't just keep everyone locked in indefinitely. We need to protect those who are vulnerable through isolation but the rest of us need to be able to get back to work and everything else the economy depends on

The rest are not having restrictions lifted - we are all in lockdown for 3 weeks -
Look at the data , the people that this virus is killing is the elderly (average age 84), so keep them cocooned is the correct call - everyone is suffering

The teachers aren't off. Some of them are providing classes over video conferencing: some are setting and correcting assignments.

Who wants that? Restrictions should be gradually relaxed from 5 May for everyone but the elderly and at risk. We need to get the economy going again, while making sure that the ICU isnt overwhelmed. It will be tough on the elderly, if they have to cocoon until there is a vaccine, but it is the only way to move on from this without burning down the whole economy

So how about the elderly continue to cocoon and the rest have restrictions lifted somewhat then?

As a cousin of mine said who recently got it. With all the symptoms he had put together he literary had nothing left, thankfully he recovered. Had an awful dose. I think i’ll be doing the cowards way, hiding from it!

So 3 more weeks.

I've been at this since the week before paddy's day and I have no symptoms, can work from home and have managed shopping etc just fine.

But I'm not at home and leaving my own place empty for another few weeks is a concern. I am thinking of getting work to adjust the address on the cover letter they issued to all staff and go and check on things soon. I can remote onto my plex server and all is working so I haven't been robbed - yet - but the chances increase the longer this goes on I reckon.

Of course, if I go there's the chance of not getting back which would be a problem too.

Extremely frustrating considering the actual risk involved in the return trip is zero

I think it was always the plan for the Gardaí to have their powers extended for at least another month and probably much longer. The Easter weekend announcement was only made to give the public time to get gradually accustomed to the new situation.

100% correct it only takes one case to start the whole process again. The only way is complete lockdown until a vaccine is found in around 12 months time.

We can’t stay going like this until then as there will be nothing left if they do.

This whole lockdown is turning in a farce. If our government and advisory committee had opened their eyes in time and protected our nursing homes from the mess they are in now. We’d have lost less than half the number we have to date.

For god sake only last week they stopped agency care workers from attending numerous nursing homes in the same day/week.

Why can’t they think outside the box for once and try to preempt things instead of closing the door when the horse is long gone down the road.

Wouldn't happen, people won't accept another lockdown. The vulnerable will be expected to cocoon themselve. Rest of society carries on with day to living.
