Is this what you are asserting..... Online sales are years old this didnt start with craft breweries. Feels like you have not ordered stuff online before ?
Shelflife wrote: » Im not sure why the responses have such an aggressive tone to them. I assumed that most online alcohol sales would be through the likes of Tesco who have their own delivery staff to oversee who is buying the product. Im not asserting anything and you dont need thousands to do it to lose your licence, one will do ! It could result in a temporary closure esp as a previous poster stated that no effort was made to ascertain the age of the customer.
Ballso wrote: » Oh be quiet. Kids are not buying trays of expensive craft beer, cop on.
Shelflife wrote: » Again I dont get the tone of the response. It doesnt matter if you wouldnt expect underage kids to buy craft beer or not. If there is a possibility that they can or that age verification isnt being carried out the HSE can and do carry out sting operations that can result in losing your licence. Im not suggesting that there is a massive underage drinking problem involving craft beer brewers, I am suggesting that they are leaving themselves open to problems by not having an age verification process.
Ballso wrote: » Can you cite a specific example of a specialist supplier being losing their licence under one of these "sting operations" then? Places like Celtic whiskey and drinkstore have been offering these services for years.
Shelflife wrote: » Not specific to a specialist store but they do operate them in standard off licences and supermarket off licences, the law is no different for anyone supplying alcohol. They may well have being audited and passed if their age verification is working properly , but if the delivery person doesnt verify the age of the recipient then they are open to prosecution. Again Im responding to a poster who acknowledged the fact that a delivery of alcohol was left on his doorstep with no effort to verify the age of the recipient, if a company continues to engage in a practise like that its only a matter of time before it becomes a problem.

Ballso wrote: » Braindead nonsense, the HSE have spun up a division to put struggling niche producers out of business via clandestine sting operations during a global pandemic
Shelflife wrote: » I asked a simple question in relation to on-line sales of alcohol. I wanted to know how they complied with the current licencing laws in relation to underage sales. I wasnt referring to the current global pandemic situation we are in , it was a general query. I never suggested the above I merely answered the question asked. If a complaint is made to the HSE they have to act upon it, Im well aware that craft beer isnt the usual port of call for most 16-17 year olds but they still have to be seen to comply with the law. Pandemic aside, relying on the courier to enforce the age regulations is asking for trouble and simply isnt good practise. I didnt come in here looking for a fight, I was simply curious and no I have never bought alcohol on line. I asked a simple question and got two answers, first one said they relied on the courier to ensure that the recipient was over 18, the second one said a delivery was left at the door. Im not suggesting that the Brewers are involved in any skulduggery or underhand practise but you only need one serious complaint against you to land you in trouble. One instance where the parents are away some weekend and one of their kids orders some beers and the irate parent kicks off big time. .

The former has a flat €5 next day delivery fee, whereas the latter appears to have a much broader selection but has 2-3 days delivery. Are there other websites I've missed? Am based in Cork if there are any breweries/off licences going locally.
