The chest tightness and breathlessness progressed to lung-burning feelings >>> on to two days of chills and sweats >>>>> now on to four days of fatigue still with chest pain and breathlessness. Starting to feel heat abc “pleuritic” pain in my upper back today (I had mild viral pleurisy last year for first time so remember what if feels like). Doc gave me script for antibiotics when he referred me so I started to take that early this week as a preemptive. I got tested yesterday but I am fairly sure that this is CV. What are the chances that a load of us get strange respiratory virus in the middle of a global pandemic of a new respiratory virus and it’s not it? And I place emphasis on strange. I’m 40 and have never experienced an illness quite like this before. In the UK they are not testing and giving presumptive clinical diagnosis based on symptoms... I’ve read that the test has only 75-80% accuracy though and false negs are possible. In the end the main thing about the test result for me is the confirmation and will allow me to offer my services to help in the community (shopping etc) afterwards. Our family are treating this situation as if I have it anyway... Main thing I think is rest. But your doc might prescribe an antibiotic for chest infection over the phone at the moment?
Pete Moss wrote: » Hi all, I tested positive for COVID-19. HSE called me last night at roughly around 8PM. Contact tracing called me this morning - that didn't take long as I have been self-isolating since I was referred for testing, so it was my partner and daughter who I have had any contact with. For people concerned or anxious regarding testing, symptoms, referral and positive diagnosis, I will add my experience for reference. Over the weekend before last (Sat 14th) my toddler daughter had really high temperature (which hit 39.9 at one point) and was quite lethargic, whiny, etc. Alternating between Calpol and Nurofen brought her temperature down temporarily over the weekend. Early Monday (16th) her temperature dropped to 34. We contacted our GP and were advised to keep an eye on the temperature, any additional symptoms and contact them if we were concerned any further. As Monday went on, her temperature went back to normal and she was fine, has been since. On the 17th, I got aches, pains and chills, went to bed for a nap after taking paracetamol and woke up fine, but that night the symptoms came back. I went to bed and woke up the next morning (18th) with that virus, metallic type taste in my mouth, tired, still sore, drenched with sweat and a temperature. Contacted the GP who then phoned me asking a series of questions and referred me for a test. Later that day, I started to experience a shortness of breath and tightness on my chest. I had asthma as a child and have always kept inhalers, but have had no experience of an attack in well over 15 years, but I recognised the feeling as being like a mild asthma attack. I took the inhaler and left a humidifer on. Similar symptoms on Thurs (19th) along with a pressure headache, a wet, not runny, nose. I was tested in Croke Park on Sat (21st) AM and the test went like clockwork. It's very surreal and I've had better days in Croke Park, but it has to be done. Considering the scale of the operation, the stress involved for staff (taking into consideration the staff there have their own concerns for their well-being, as well as their loved ones) and the public stress levels and concerns, I found the whole experience to be exceptionally efficient and the staff were great - in response to a previous poster, I view this as being "typically Irish". My symptoms continued over the weekend, until Sunday, when they began to alleviate slightly. On Sunday evening I noticed my sense of smell had diminished considerably. My breathing has eased, tightness in the chest has loosened, not as fatigued, but I have still been getting headaches and my sense of smell is still off. I never had a consistent dry cough at any point. As mentioned, I got the call last night and this morning from the HSE teams - all HSE reps were helpful, informative and doing a brilliant job in unprecedented times. I've stayed at home since I contacted my GP first and am continuing to do so. At home I'm trying to distance myself as much as possible, sleeping in another room, wiping down anything I touch, along with washing my hands regularly. It might not do anything, but I have been loading up on vitamins, drinking lots of water, keeping the humidifer on at night and trying to get a good night's rest, as well as sleeping when I can during the day. That's pretty much my experience so far. If I can help anyone with any questions, feel free to ask or PM me and I'll get back when I can. I have to stress, this was my experience, others may have additional symptoms or much more severe symptoms. Overall, I seem to have mild symptoms and have been fortunate so far. That said, I'm very glad I applied the advised social-distancing recommendations, as it made the contact tracing much easier, so if you have symptoms and waiting on a test or results, from my experience, I would definitely recommend staying put and limiting your contact as much as possible. I was very much so freaked out and still am to an extent, but I have adopted a phrase attributed to the great Seamus Heaney as a mantra to try keep my head when I get anxious or worried: "If we can winter this one out, we ca summer anywhere". Hope everyone else is keeping well!

My 70 year old mum with moderate underlying health conditions has had something since Tuesday - stomach bug and vomiting with shivering and infrequent cough with phlegm Tuesday didn't want to leave her bed, then improvement yesterday and big improvement today almost back to normal. Also given her age if it was Corona then even at the beginning her immune system wouldn't be coping that well would it?

I started getting sick on Saturday the 14th. Paddy's day was the worst for me. The dry cough wasnt too bad. Temperature went up and down over the few days. The headaches killed me and lasted ages. Shortness of breath, I still can't walk up the stairs or change my 2 year olds nappy with being out of breath. And not to mention the absolute exhaustion. But this Monday I felt alright again and on Tuesday I felt ****e again. Have been alright since. I hope your mother is ok.

I've never been diagnosed with asthma before this but have a chest infection that has caused it now. Learning how to use an inhaler at 42. I'm self isolating and won't be tested due to the restrictions now as I never had a temperature.
