Looking for dark rum recommendations

Hey,
I'm looking for some rum to try. I only drink dark rum. Will not drink clear rum. Prefer not to spend more than €60 on a bottle or rum, as otherwise I'd get a bottle of Dictador 20 year old rum

Also, prefer to buy it in a shop in Dublin, or nearby Dublin.

Except it cannot legally use that term in Europe because its illegally weak.

Its a whiskey flavoured liquer. It is not a whiskey.

Pretty certain it cannot use the Bourbon term either for similar reasons.

And its definitely not a rum, as the topic is!

My regular rums are Dictador 20 year old and my absolute favourite Ron zacapa 23 ... at the prices they are I have to tell myself to go easy.
The Zacapa over a ball of ice sipped is heaven.

Diplomatico is a fine tipple. The reserva is really nice, and the mantuano is also very very easy on the tongue.

Matusalem Solera 7 Year Old for me .. LOVE IT . if you know anyone off to tenerife its only 14.90 a bottle ..

For under €60, I would recommend to try Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 and Pyrat XO.
Angostura 1919 would also be good choice.

With so many lovely rums available why isn’t it more popular ? I mean compared to other spirts it’s nearly impossible to get a decent rum in a pub outside of Dublin and even in the city you need to know where to go. For most people rum stops at captain Morgan’s or Bacardi ...

Kraken is making dark and stormy.

Havana anejo for a rum and coke.

It's such a versatile spirit and delicious in everything, rum baba, rum and raisan ice cream haha.

I bought a bottle of the brewdog botanical rum to try over Christmas.

7 year, 1919, 1824 and 1787.

Bacardi also have some nice dark rums

Bacardi also have Bacardi Spiced, which I like, picked up two 70cl bottles today in Dunnes, €23 each, I also liked the Oak Heart but haven't seen it in a while

Would it not be better to clearly separate dark rum and spiced rum.

I think spiced is cheap rum diguised with the spice.

I have a nice bottle of havana club maestro and also a bottle kirk and sweeneys for christmas.. sipping rums

By law, they are separated in the EU but many, many producers are flouting the labelling regulations.
According to the EU there is no such thing as spiced rum. Once you add flavours, sugar or spices, it's no longer rum.

"(d) Rum shall not be flavoured."

Seems the rum world is the wild west of regulations, there is no consistancy on age claims either, some countries are strict with age on bottles, Jamaica is one.. watched a good video on this.

Problem is that rum is made in so many places.
There's even a few Irish produced rums that are blatantly in breech of the regs.

I think best thing is keep trying them all until you find a few you like in diferent prices rages and for straight or mixed.

Oakheart is discontinued in favour of the Bacardi Spiced. The Carta Fuego too.
