Traffic is busier on Church St. though. So I'm not sure if it's "better" so much as it's been routed to another junction.

Traffic is absolutely scandalous on the N28 and Douglas flyover instead though. Which is better for Douglas and would be better in the long run if extra lanes could be added to the N28 and N40

Coming from Carrigaline I’ve taken to using Donnybrook Hill over Carr’s Hill

Well hopefully we get welcome news on the N28 issue shortly, as for the Douglas flyover, ideally it could do with being widened, but i don't see how.

Unsure on that, the article I posted earlier today says some have gone out of business

Not sure how true it is or not, but the car that started this has not been inspected, and they are hoping everything stays intact during demolition so said car can be extracted.
If that's the case, this is gonna be a long wait to see what happens.

There was some sort of inspection done on it in the car park, then it was covered, unsure what's next for it.

Hoping to relocate into containers on the Woollen Mills site, but sadly saying that some traders have already gone out of business.

Would it not make more sense for some of the traders to go into the empty lots in the other shopping centre? Or is there something in particular blocking that happening? Just noticing there are quite a few empty shopfronts in the Douglas Court centre which could do well from even a temporary filling by those waiting for Douglas Village to reopen..

I think the idea is that the containers would be rent free to help the small traders get back on their feet whereas Douglas Court being privately owned would want rent from anyone occupying space.

AFAIK Douglas Court is also owned by a certain Mr Love, according the article from 1999 he did anyway, but may have changed ownership since.

It has changed hands a few times since then, rumour has it that Dunnes bought the remainder of Douglas Court last year so as well as always owning their own section they now apparently own the whole centre.
AFAIK Clayton Love lost Douglas Court and Blackpool centres to Nama.

I think he runs it and has some official listing as a part owner but Deutsche Bank are by far the biggest stakeholders in Douglas Village, Douglas Court, the Cinema site and the empty plot where the market is.

Correct.

Douglas Developments Limited (a subsidiary of the Love family owned Shipton Group) lost control of Douglas Village SC when it was purchased by investment firm Varde Partners as part of the Spectrum portfolio in 2014. It had been put into receivership in 2012 by Bank of Scotland.

Shipton also lost control of Blackpool SC when it was purchased by Varde Partners as part of the Project Acorn portfolio in 2014.

Douglas Village Shopping Centre was developed by Clayton Love in the early 1970s and sold in 1990. The Love family reacquired it (from Owen O’Callaghan) in 1999. They also acquired a lot of property between the two centers (the old CSB/TSB admin building, cinema etc) with a view to linking them and developing hotels etc.

The Wilton Shopping Centre which was developed by the Love family in the 1970s was a sold by them to IPUT in the 1980s. It has a number of subsequent owners, including Tesco. It was sold as part of the Project Hazel portfolio in 2016. Tesco retained ownership of their store.

Whilst not doubting your post, I thought that during the downturn that they were re allocating staff from the planning office to social welfare etc..

Hmmm construction industry, developers, planners where did I come across that before ?

Its doable, you could put a third lane westbound (or extend a slip road from the M28 all the way over on a seperate bridge tightly up against the current one). There is easily space for it by knocking like one or two small buildings. Eastbound isn't as much of an issue, as you're limited by the tunnel at the end of the day.

I've heard second hand from one of the traders that they were blocked from moving into Douglas Court by the equivalent trader there, they're afraid of competition. Not confident how accurate that is so wont say what type of trader.

I couldn't imagine they'll leave cars park there while doing any remedial works?
Will it be a sole Aldi carpark when opened or who owns the carpark there?
