Peter Casey is a very naive person, politically at any rate. He may learn and build, or he may get bored and sod off again. Either way, I think the people of MNW are better served without Casey as an MEP for this term.

About 51,000 in March. Activation Programmes. This has no impact on the stats because it has been going on for decades. Even when hundreds of thousands of people were coming from abroad to take up employment here, there were similar numbers on the schemes and long term unemployed.

Long term unemployment shouldn't be a thing these days unless you have a disability and cannot work.

If you choose this path your payments should be cut to a small fraction to force you to work.

Dublin is not Ireland, there's still plenty of long term unemployed outside Dublin, and cutting their payments has already been done, but has little effect, because there is no work.

I'm in Galway. I know 3 companies that cannot fill dozens of skilled jobs. There's mountains of work.

Also in Limerick and facing similar issues. We don't interview many Irish candidates simply because there's not a huge number applying.

Simple laws of supply and demand. You pay the right wages according to the prevailing supply and demand and you'll get all the employees you want.

I have a pretty good salary and it's competitive when compared to other software companies. Also worked in Dublin, we faced similar issues with hiring the caliber of software engineers that we wanted if we were to limit to Irish people.

The supply isn't in Ireland though, that's the point. The demand is. Plenty of jobs but not enough skilled workers. Hence, companies looking elsewhere. A Galway company recently went to Australia to recruit as they can't fill the jobs here.

I was pointing out that certain industries lack the supply. You then claimed we weren't paying enough. Now you're shifting the goal posts.... You'll find that this isn't limited to Galway, Limerick and Dublin btw...

Back to claiming certain cities represent the situation in all of Ireland again ? They don't. And if you pay the increasing market rate, commensurate with the supply and demand, instead of trying to import cheap labour and undercut existing employees, you'll get all the workers you need.
