So why is it only Irish channels who are worthy of your "disgraceful" This thread is nothing more than a stick to beat Irish channels with. Disgraceful to use such a story to do it.

As for TG4 no idea very rarely watch it but doubt it. RTE were not showing it on 1 or 2 anyway only on News Now and online. I did watch a little of it just not it all it was over 2 hours long and I did not get the beginning of it. Check below. Exactly. They were showing their respect. Thank you well said.

Are they disgraceful too for not wanting to beam a persons funeral into peoples homes? Personally I wouldn't be put out if nobody showed a funeral as like others I think a family's grief should be private but I guess not everyone would agree with that.

NIMAN wrote: » There was an ulterior motive by giving the funeral so much media coverage today. It is to try to get these scumbags to deliver a ceasefire, and pack in shooting people. That's why so many high profile dignitaries were there today. To ramp up the outrage and make it into the worst thing to happen in the north in 20 years, even if it was or not. Had a young policeman of the same age or less been hit by that bullet there would not have been that turnout today, and the media coverage would have died down well before now. But the death of this young girl is a great chance to get things to change, and the powers that be don't want to waste it. The fact that a few digs were thrown at a few local politicians was a nice sideshow too, but like the New IRA, I don't think it'll make them change their ways either. If they were sincere, they would get the assembly up and running from tomorrow. But I wouldn't hold my breath

Next in line are terrorist atrocities, or just plain lethal cowardice, as the lines are clearly drawn and we can all congratulate ourselves on being the good guys. If there's anything even remotely contentious it's time to switch over to Al Jazeera, a station that's not afraid to cover itself in other people's shÃt.

Having said that, getting worked up about a funeral for someone (that very few people had heard of before last week) not being televised is bananas, sorry. I also think televising the funeral (and broadcasting peoples' grief for all to see) is over the top, voyeuristic and an invasion of privacy. Let the poor family grieve in peace.

I cannot even begin to imagine what it's like being photographed or recorded while you're saying your final goodbyes, not to mention dealing with those types of surrounding circumstances. Bizarre that people would want to watch it televised or feel that they are in someway paying their respects by doing so.
