I think our chances of qualifying are very low but I feel positive none the less and am looking forward to tonight. I think if we can get the first goal it really might throw off PSG. Even if they go 1-0 up if we are even 1-1 at HT I would fancy a decent bash in the second half.

I have this feeling that if we somehow manage to go through tonight we might actually go on to win the cup. This would most likely be equivalent to Juventus away in 1999. I think we would also begin to look like Chelsea 2012 except our team is also performing in the league. The momentum and confidence garnered from clawing back a 2-0 deficit would be ridiculous.

I don't actually expect United to win or qualify, I am just looking forward to seeing how they get on. I actually think this could just as easily be a PSG hammering as it could be us scraping by so I am under no illusions about Uniteds chances.

There's a serious rebuilding job needed there. An ageing squad in some key positions with little reinvestment.

And we know how he reacts if he doesn't get every transfer he wants.

Real have not been a big player in the transfer market for a good four years now.

I don't expect us to get through tonight.
Too much stacked against us. The injury situation is very unfortunate.
But lets hope the guys give a positive performance.

The Arsenal game at the weekend is the bigger game imo.
I just hope we get through this without any further injuries.

PSG are starting to look like decent dark horses in this competition

There are quite a few factors that come into the equation imo.

Re: Set team/formation for his first run of fixtures.
That was facilitated by 1. everyone (more or less) being available and 2. Relatively weak opposition, who we could afford to be positive against (and also 3. Ole wanting to put out a clear "United Way" marker, post-Jose)

The real question imo is, Should we have a fixed team / formation / style?
I don't think we should because 1. I don't think we've got the quality within the team to dictate play to all others and 2. Having a fixed system makes you predictable, which is ok, until we're back looking at beating the best.

We've a small sample but I think Ole's style is clear enough. He'll be agressive against weaker teams but will set up much more cautious against similar, better level. He'll also change it up based on available players.

The only real exception to that was PSG when he went out very bullish and also didn't react to the forced changes.

The club have been criticised ad nauseum for a scatter gun approach, hiring different managers and buying different players for those managers leading to a supposedly unbalanced squad full of "deadwood".
Now the club appears to have some sort of strategy whereby suitable players (I imagine there is a pretty limited list of the same players which all the top clubs have) are identified and then put to the current coach. This is also criticized.

So which is it, do we want an over arching plan or do we continue to appoint and sack managers, buy and discard players?

All this is because seemingly people think it is all one guy (Woodward) playing real life fantasy manager with a multi billion euro corporation, which is a pretty crazy idea.

I think ideally Ole would be the coach who for the most part would be given the best players available and a director of football be appointed which would largely just be for optics as it wouldn't make a difference to how transfers come about. But it would appease those who just think Woodward is clicking buy and sell on his computer.

Questioning and criticising are not the same things.

When the manager says very clearly that he is not involved in recruitment until the end of the process, its a reasonable question to ask who is making the decisions before that?

When this new process doesn't seem to tally with what happened in previous transfer windows then its reasonable to wonder why?

Criticism might come later, but for now there are still far more questions than answers.

Unless it was a swap with Sanchez and no more than 20m I wouldn't go near Bale . Would much prefer us to sign chucky lozano. He's only 23 and I think he can play both wings too . The time to get bale was when he went to Madrid. We matched their offer and he turned us down so feck him

Why does it not tally? The likes of Lindelof, Bailly, Dalot, Martial, Shaw were probably brought to the manager as options based on work the club did to identify them.

Hold on, what exactly is the clubs transfer strategy now ? I don't know how anybody can make any statement about what non managerial strategies/roles have changed/improved internally since Ole has taken charge.

Since you feel Woodward is getting such a hard time I would love to hear what information you have on his role in transfers. Maybe some of us have been too hard on Woody . . He is in the highest position at the club and has been a constant fixture at that level since SAF retired and has presided over an awful period of the club. Maybe you can clear up the misgivings that many of us have about his motives (shiny marketable and young players - not necessarily what first team needs) and his qualities that we just do not appreciate?

In fact, can you tell me how the last 6 years haven't generally been a scattergun approach to managerial and transfer signings ?
