Hi there, need to bring my son to an orthodontist in Waterford as he's on the HSE list for 3 yrs now with no sign of an appointment. I've contacted and they said it's going to be at least 2 more years 😩
As he's starting transition year I think we should get moving and go privately. Any new recommendations on who we should use?

My son was on the HSE list for 6 years in total and only got them fitted in late 2017, and got them off them in the first few months of covid. My daughter was put on the list in 2017 and with no sign of her being called and we gave up on that list in dec 2020 and went private, we went to O Keeffe's. My son had his ones fitted by Joe Alcock and like others have said, he was excellent also. We actually had a call in early 2023 about my daughters place on the list, I assumed that she was finally getting called, but no, they only wanted to know if we still wanted to stay on the list. Apparently we still had a year or two of a wait to go.
I have two sons. Other than that, your experience exactly matches mine. Son number 1 still had braces in his first college semester. He was put on the list in national school. What really stuck in my throat was RTÉ and the newspapers cottoned on to it. RTÉ had an interview with a poor unfortunate girl from Wicklow who had to wait 2 1/2 years for her treatment. I nearly broke the tv. My son was already waiting 5 at the time. Then there was a report published in the papers. There was something like 82k kids on the waiting list nationally. 27k, one third, were in the SE. by far the biggest backlog of any district even disregarding population percentage. The best area was Wicklow, which bizarrely had its own administrative area. Bizarre until you realized that the Minister for Health at the time was none other than Simple Simon, man of the people.
That’s how the country runs I’m afraid.
