There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

Not been but my mates rave about Palmento in Douglas - Neapolitan style pizza - v v thin base etc.. if thats your thing..

I have had pizza in La Jolie - must have been ok because I would remember if it was bad.. but it wouldn't be a bench mark for me..

I love Novecento.. its just perfect for me as pizza goes.. light and crisp and tasty toppings.. hmm..

Pompeii in the Fran Well is v good too - v v tasty but not many topping to choose from..

Had La Tana once and never been back.. had to eat it with a knife and fork.. twas messy and a bit bland.. for me Pizza is to be eaten by hand..

Been meaning to try Toons bridge myself though...

Scozzi's is excellent for a pizza.

Tom Barrys is great for pizza. The rising son also does a deal of pizza and a pint for €12 which is hard to beat.

I like Fran well or Rossini's for pizza. Rossini has a very slightly thicker base (but still definitely Italian style and crispy) than places like La Tana or Novecento, and I prefer that. Fran well is just an all around good pizza, beer and experience.

Uncle Pete’s restaurant is lovely, have been going there years and the food is always great. Good selection of beers/ales aswell.

Oak fire is really good. Different to novecento but I'd put it in par quality wise.

where is the 'best' pizza in Cork City? Something that could compare to a good pie from NYC or even better Naples?

I take the kids on occasional Saturday road trips to La Jolie Brise in Baltimore to get what I think is one of the best pizzas in Ireland but would prefer a shorter drive.

Napoli style pizza, definitely Palmento in douglas. Pizza is so thin it is super-bendy. The Italian families around here go there for pizza.

New York pizza is a different beast. Thin, enormous and sold by the slice. Best ones are where the oil drips down your arm as you eat it... Don’t think there’s any like that around here.

Funnily enough, La Tana pizza is the WORST pizza I've had in Ireland, and the world for that matter. I would never recommend it to anybody.

For a decent pizza I'd recommend Novecento or Palmetto. Both restaurants have different styles of pizza. Novecento would have a cripsy thin base and Palmento is softer and chewey. Palmento is a bit of a rip off though. There's a place in Galway called dough bros that does the exact same type of pizza for half the price.

On another note, see that clown at Idaho Cafe going on about them now opening at 8am. I would have thought any serious modern cafe in the city centre would be open by 7h30 at the latest? And the same place doesnt open Sunday and Monday but it's Starbucks fault that independent cafes fail.
He wrecks my head I admit.

It’s two brothers from the same family running one each. The father used to own Luciano’s by the Capitol I think. Both excellent chefs but La Tana has had massive organizational issues

I agree. I call into McDonalds some mornings before work at around 7.30 am for porridge and it is always busy. I call into the The Bookshelf other mornings around the same time and it's busy enough there too as well.

Surprised when I went into Soma at 9am and they were just opening and didn't seem to want to brew up suggesting i come back later?

Soma open at 7.30am during the week. So does Filter I think. Think Three Fools is at 8. I used regularly stop in to them for a coffee on the way to work.

Cant speak for weekend opening hours as I'd rarely be in town before 9 or 10, but agree it can be baffling when some places close.

Anyone know what the story is with Warren Allen? Was in town this afternoon at about midday and the shutter was down.

Ah don't tell me they've closed. For me, the best coffee in town.

It wouldn't surprise me hugely, nonetheless. It was never particularly busy and it didn't seem to be part of the coffee clique in town nor did I hear too many people talk about it.

There's no rationalizing a place like Idaho doing better than a Warren Allen.

If Warren Allen City has closed, hope it doesn't affect it's original outlet in Bandon.

Yes, I believe that it is closed but its Bandon store won't be affected. The lease is up and I think they are looking for a new location possibly across the river.

Maybe they dipped their toe in the city with a short term lease? This would put their name out there without major risk. A location move then would be feasible.

I've been there a few times and it was always good.

Signage outside was pretty poor though, you'd easily miss it.

Pizza isn't nearly as good as they used to be, but their wedges with garlic mayo are the business though. Some feed.
