US Death penalty

Scott Dozier a convicted murderer hanged himself in his cell 10 days ago. He had been campaigning for his Death sentence to be carried out for the past 2 years, he stopped the appeal process and told a judge in court that he wanted the sentence enforced.

There's a halt on lethal injections in certain States at the moment because drug companies are refusing to provide.

Dozier asked for the chair, firing squad or gas chamber, but none of these methods are used in the State of Neveda.

I feel very sorry for him in a weird sort of way.

Why though.

He inflicted harm on others so should have to suffer.

Pity there is a stop to it though.

Watched "The innocent Man" Netflix documentary series recently. John Grisham's book is the true account of the series. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it but it certainly makes you think twice about the death penalty. Makes for sad viewing.

In the US it costs more to execute a person than keep them in prison for life.

Because of the appeals and court costs.

BTW it's the European drug companies that are refusing to cooperate. Some low-life in the UK was reshipping the stuff to the US just for that purpose.

Anyway the death penalty is too lenient, because there is always the possibility of reincarnation.

There's fierce questions about the Lethal Injection.

The condemed man does suffer. They give them a drug which paralyses the body before the lethal dose of potassium chloride.

Yrs ago a man by the name of Robyn Lee Parks was executed by LI. He wasn't administered the paralysis drug and relaxant by accident. What happened then was harrowing, he screamed and contorted on the table for 11mins. Fully aware and conscious shouting things like 'I'm burning', and 'God please come."

5 marksmen aiming at a target over the heart. Instant death.

Hanging can be rough, even with the long drop method it usually takes 30 to 45 mins for the body to fully expire.

Meh. Over there it’s not about justice, it’s about revenge. Therefore going to jail or being executed is not enough, it has to be humiliating or painful.

Over here we tend to think that degrading treatment shames the perpetrator rather than the victim.

That's a different argument, we should not wish to make the execution painful, hanging when done right is not painful

Not quite instant D. After the heart stops the brain will likely stay conscious for around ten seconds and brain activity can go on for some minutes, but how conscious that is who knows. In old style executions they administered the coup de grace, a gunshot to the head immediately after.

Short drop, yeah, but long drop is likely instant lights out. The spine detaches from the skull/brain as it's essentially a decapitation without the head coming off(usually), the massive shock to the head at the end of the drop causes instant deep coma level unconsciousness, the lack of blood supply to the brain caused by the constriction of the rope will cause full brain death within minutes. Yes the rest of the body will usually keep going for a while after, but in many cases the heart also stops almost immediately after the drop. If given the horrible choice of all current legally mandated methods, I'd take the long drop myself. Bullet to the back of the skull another.

Nitrogen asphyxiation would be about the most humane.

Are you killing people because of the amount of convictions they have or for specific convictions ?

The person feels nothhng, they're brain dead from the time of impact, broken neck.

But there has been cases of people cut down who still had a pulse, the body will fight to stay alive.

I believe the British had a regulation 3 hrs hanging on the long drop.

An expensive price for a tank or petrol.

o save himself the price of a tank of petrol, Parks had shot the petrol station cashier. But what he didn’t realise was that a credit card slip had already been printed with his number plate on it.

Parks had already chalked up a whole heap of previous crimes during the ‘70s, including armed robbery, so he was sentenced to death for killing Abdullah Ibrahim in 1978.
