Do you think councils should be refusing to spend money they actually have to spend on services they have to provide? Does it matter what it is for?
Ruraldweller56 wrote: » I watched that when it was on. Absolutely crap. Not one difficult question asked, of which there should have been many. What I found the most bizarre was where the crowd in Sligo wouldn't move into a halting site because of a feud with the other travellers living there. And yet, as settled folk who lead a culturally very different lifestyle are supposed to have no problem whatsoever with these people rocking up next to us. That RTÉ left them off so lightly was a disgrace.
Deebles McBeebles wrote: » Its not about whether I agree or not. Its about a lack of proper questioning into what's really going on there. It was typical RTE in many ways. I think councils should spend everything they get, as long as its needed. In fact, I was under the impression they had to spend their budget by a certain deadline or have their budget cut.

Me and my wife scrimped and saved for a deposit for our house and now have a 20 year mortgage we'll have to work for to pay back. Why won't the gubbernererment pay for my house? If I come in pi$$ed for the pub and am under the influence of illegal substances and cause a chip pan fire is it the gubbernererments fault? So many questions. So few answers.

It is part of are membership of the EU to do so along with are own long standing policies. You do get the British said the same about all Irish and actively tried to destroy our culture. You think your attitude is any different?

We've already established that the seasonal farm work and hammering pots and pans is a thing of the past. Can they speak their own language anymore is there anything at all left. All that aside. They can do what they like as far as I'm concerned. I just don't see why I should have to pay for it. I've done it my whole life (and will until the day I die) and get nothing only grief in return. As for me being the same as the British I'll refer you to my previous point. I'm not trying to destroy anything. I'm actually all for them travelling the countryside, minding horses and nana instead of going to school getting an education and spending their lives in a 9-5 cubicle. Who's going to pay for it though Ray?
Ray Palmer wrote: » Yes they still speak their own language. So your general argument is their culture has been so successfully destroyed they might as well give up. It doesn't bother you because you don't want to pay for it. Now you do pay for it and always will that's just how it goes. Whether you think something is important or not the government and the world view of such things is more developed. There is funding and it is not being spent. I also pointed out that your attitude is the same as the British population when the government was trying genocide of the Irish people and culture. No different you just not being self aware is a whole other issue
Ray Palmer wrote: » Me too what is your point? I know lots of people who get state aid and free housing. Is it just you begrudge them being helped? Should we get rid of them? How do you feel about native tribes in forests preventing people from cutting down the forests? Should they just start living like everyone else? Just trying to gauge what the lines are I should be following

Its a waste of time anyway. These people are generally of low iQ and constantly getting into fueds with each other over nothing. One party to the fued will then upsticks and move to the side of the road and then contact the meeja saying they are homeless and the council wont do anything for them. We are having this conversation since 1960 and travellers havent improved their lot at all. Most of the problems they have are self inflicted, how many of us could afford to take our families to Lanzarote at Christmas time or fly to Australia and New Zealand for holidays. I dont know why these people even left Rathkeale, the holidays seemed to consist of shoplifting, drinking, littering beaches, annoying and intimidating other people, basically everything these scrotes do at home. seriously, whats to be gained by travelling except too show the world what the Irish taxpayer is funding and putting up with.
