I think with the ref it was more a case of him giving fouls for things that wouldn't be fouls in the PL, so the age old problem really. I wouldn't say he was bad or worse for one team over the other, just a bit more finicky about things than we'd be used to. In terms of injury time, he should perhaps have added more in the 2nd half as he blew at about 93:58 when we had been time wasting in injury time too, and Robertson was even booked in injury time for time wasting, but nothing else was added on thankfully.

The one call from the ref that really annoyed me was when Ospina jumped for the ball, made a complete mess of it, and got bailed out with a free kick despite nobody touching him. Especially seeing that after the effort Alisson put in to challenge for the ball with his header at the weekend, feels kinda pointless knowing that even if he made a complete mess of it the ref would probably just give a free out for no reason.

Was that the one where Mané was penalised? Replay shows the goalie straining to get to the ball, Maksimovic blocking his route and Mané standing in front of Maksimovic, lining up the ball.

I think it might also been underestimated what Pep has brought to the coaching side instead of the brain.

Yeah all this says is that players aren't even allowed near a goalkeeper when he jumps for the ball, only way not to foul is to run away apparently.

One of the many things that I love about Klopp is that other manager's mind games are like water off a ducks back to him and he just laughs them off - but I'd love to see him psych Jose out in his presser. Everyone is expecting Jose to park the bus, so would love to see Klopp, when asked about what he's expecting about the match, to say something along the lines of 'the team and fans are really looking forward to the game and I have a lot of respect for Jose and how his defensive formations can make it hard for other teams. It's a shame that we won't see a flowing, courageous game of football, but I have to respect Jose if that's what he feels is best for his boys'. Or words to that effect. Maybe I'm just a dreamer.... Can't wait for Sunday, momentum is with us, the team spirit is unbreakable and it impossible not to get excited....

Is Millie carrying a knock? Any option if Trent is out and we know Joe is out will not be ideal, but Millie can patrol his zone and let Robbo push forward. If Fab starts then he can be the defensive 6 and make sure that side is protected. But yeah, agreed, it's not perfect but not too worried if Millie isn't carrying anything.

That's where he typically starts when playing for Brazil, but Klopp started Millie at RB and Fab in the 6 at Bournemouth, so he may do the same again.

Ok, so just looked on physioroom, they have TAA (knock on his foot) and Millie (cramps) as slight doubts and Matip (shoulder) as a major doubt - but they all seem to be based on comments made directly after the match, so hopefully they're all minor and are fit for selection. These are heady days. It's only the first phase of the season of course, but it's going spectacularly well and people need to sit back and enjoy the ride. It may end in disappointment of course, but we went years with nothing to get particularly hopeful or disappointed by. Last night was a gritty victory in the end but in truth what was most positive about it was the outright dominance we enjoyed throughout. Chance after chance after chance created off the back of a suffocating midfield performance. That was a tough group but we're through it and marching onwards towards the spring. Glorious.

injuries will come. they generally have to when you're playing as many high pressure, must win games as we are. remember, there is no let up in the League. if we lose, City will likely win. there is no room for error. the fight at the top of the league right now is unprecedented in terms of 2 teams winning pretty much every game. there are a couple of teams who i think have had better starts, but it's always just one team, so you can sort of relax. we don't have that luxury.

City have lost KDB, Silva and Aguero.
Liverpool have lost Gomez, Ox, Keita for a while earlier, and now maybe Trent.

the squad is essential. Christmas is ridiculous. you can't get away from injuries because the players simply aren't machines. the body does give up under the pressure of intense competition.

we know City's squad can cover (though no KDB AND Silva was an issue in the 2nd half against Chelsea), but it'll be interesting to see if Liverpool's can. that is why I can't wait to see where we are come February.

That may happen, but I think FSG have the club in a very good position in a global sense commercially and the team is in great shape in terms of investment and long term contracts etc (Michael Edwards is phenomenal and too often over looked for the outstanding job he is doing).

I can see us staying relevant much more than we were when the club failed to adapt to the new commercial models.

I envisage a sale of the club to a Middle East/Chines group in the next 5 years tbh.

I'm in two minds about the draw on Monday. While conventional wisdom says stay away from the better teams I'm always more apprehensive when we draw a lesser light.

In theory we have a better chance over two legs with one at Anfield than a one off game, assuming our away form picks up. TBH I think any of the English teams would be a challenge in the round after.

Stop. Sure the United cavalry were out in force in the match thread and beyond, gleefully expecting Liverpool to be knocked out.

Added an extra layer of icing to the whole thing knowing how they had front row seats to see yet again how good a team this Liverpool side is. They ****ing wish it was them, and that's glorious.
