In my opinion he was one of the best sports broadcast journalists around and I always loved his passion for GAA and in particular Gaelic football. Whoever replaces Derrick, for when he does leave, will have some tough boots to fill, that is for sure. On a separate note, any word on who will become Clare U20 hurling manager for 2019. John Carmody was U21 manager for the last two years.

I do agree with you in the sense that commonsense would dictate you dont put yourself in that position but he was 100% correct by the rules, its a problem with a strict set of rules and assessors in the stands, referees are no longer in a position to use the common sense rule. Horgan got to the very top very quickly and there is a reason for that..........I will reiterate again that despite being a Tipp man I am not a fan of Fergal's refereeing, I remember when he first started in Tipp, he was excellent, best in the county y a long way, then he got on the intercounty referees panel and it was all down hill from there, essientially you have to play to the assesors to stay on the panel and there is something inherently wrong with that.
