Seems weird to me, I'm a fairly left of centre kind of lad, and boards seems to think a vote for Casey is a right wing vote (even an alt right **shudders**).

I've asked and no one has ever yet given me a straight answer. What's right wing about a call for equality?

Casey got my vote because I genuinely felt he was the best candidate there, LNR was close second to him, and only on the last debate (the one Higgins didn't line out for) I thought Duffy came across well (well better than the other two).

Higgins came across terribly in the debate, nd I couldn't help get the feeling that he felt a wee bit regal in comparison with his fellow candidates, like he actually resented having to answer to them.

I also got the feeling he's passed it.

Anyway, what's done is done.

Not long to go now.

But sure really, what option do we have? anything would be a bit more exciting than 7 years of silence from Miggeldy, it's nice to hear someone sticking up for us, instead of 'act like a total scumbag and we shall all still be equal' unfortunately its come to this

It's called a protest vote.

It is not like voting for Brexit, not remotely close.
It is not voting for a new Taoiseach.

It is a protest vote, for a benign political office. It is probably the best type of election for such a thing because of the benign nature of the office!

It isn't in the slightest bit crazy.

If youre in car and the driver is going to 100% drive off a cliff, you'd sooner take youre ridiculous chances and put a bloody cat in the driving seat. At least it MIGHT do something different.

This is all the result of a political vacuum with zero choice. It gets dangerous.

the president's vote is kinda a free vote...
if we are wrong on him , at worst we'll get a few PR gaffes while an actual GE or referendum on Brexit requires some deeper thought as the consequences are greater.

Now I'll say , giving Leo and the media a kick in the hole is a feature of pleasure for me but it's a distant second on the list. I voted for Casey because what he said resonated with me and I kinda his unpolished style ...no school of brainwashing with terry prone for him.

What do you know about Casey outside of his opinion on travellers and social welfare?

I'm not in disagreement with the guys opinions on both however I don't know enough about the guy to place any level of trust in him - even as a protest vote.

quite simply this is a Brexit style protest vote with zero consequences as the role of president is purely ceremonial in ireland.
