In any case not really bothered about any of the candidates. The referendum thing doesn't affect me one way or the other. Just appears to be an easy box ticking/window dressing exercise so we can pat ourselves on the back, being all modern and progressive.

100%. I was acosted on Twitter last night calling me a racist because I said that the Chinese boy from Bray who has a deportation order on him should be deported post haste.

I asked what i'd said was racist, got a load of waffle back including, and this was the most serious part, an accusation that I was associated with a business, and that no one should do business with them as they are racists.

I have no association with the business they put forward, and have never had, yet this clown was calling them racists and threatening to boycott/publicise that they were racist.

What sort of backwards thinking is this?? This is exactly what people are fed up with. They couldn't tell me one "racist" thing I'd said. I asked them if they had reported my "racism" to Twitter etc, and they just stopped replying. People need to stand up to this.

You’re missing the point. People are supporting him as finally a someone has spoken out. This is now an opportunity for people to have a voice where they didn’t before.

Leo talked the talk on backing those who got up early but he hasn’t walked the walk. Maybe if Casey received a sizeable percentage then he’ll take note or other TDs will. I’m hopeful for the first time in quite a while.

But how does one really know the national average? I mean these Red C Polls for example are a load of codswallop. They are tools used to influence the public to vote a certain way. In Britain there was no hope of Brexit winning if we were to rely on their polls, there was also no hope of Trump winning according to their polls. Now, I do not think Casey is going to win by any means but I would be willing to bet that he is far more than 2% that the national polls are trying to lead one to think.

The polls in the US presidential election and Brexit weren’t that far out at all. Some polls a couple of weeks out had brexit winning. The last polls in the UK had it 52-48 remain win. It was the opposite so a two point swing.

The US presidential elections gave Trump a 1 in 3 chance according to fivethirtyeight.com (statistical analysis website) before the election. Clinton was more likely to win of course but 1 in 3 is a reasonable chance too.

Neither had ‘no hope’ on a reasonable analysis but the media may have presented it that way.

The polls at the weekend were taken over ten days and it was on the last day of that period that Casey came out with his traveler comments so they won’t have factored in the subsequent attention he has received. Agree he will get a fair bit higher than 2%.

An awful lot of morons wrongly accusing Peter Casey of being racist and a large number of morons on this site idiotically accusing their fellow posters of being racist for supporting him.

Equally there are a number of posters insinuating that anyone voting for Casey is intellectually challenged somehow.

I’m voting No. 1 for Peter because he has talked about an issue that resonates with me. An issue that certain sections of Irish Society would prefer remain taboo.

He has highlighted the criminal, anti-social, “culture” of a sizable, protected portion of our society. One which the hard-working, working classes of Ireland are expected to fund yet not question or object. Casey has opened up the conversation.

Most people understand that the role of President is largely ceremonial and without any power but the fact that Casey was polling at less than 2% before he actually stated some facts, only to be accused of being a racist by the out of touch media and several public figures, means that should he now poll well (hopefully over 20% - possible even better) a very strong message will have been sent.

None of the others are saying anything worthwhile to persuade me to give them my vote. He has!!

I am starting to feel that a number of posters and their fellow cretins in the media are beginning to really worry that Peter Casey is going to do really well on Friday and that just does not chime whit their deluded view of the world they think they live in.
