    Agree with this statement 100%.

Find myself biting my tongue sometimes the way some people go on (both here on boards and IRL) talking about certain shows as if they're being forced to watch it while strapped to a chair with their eyes forced open (á la A Clockwork Orange) when all I want to do is scream, "Just change the f**king channel!"

And before people start jumping in guns blazing, I ain't talking about people criticizing a show they actually watch or giving out about the declining quality of a show they once enjoyed but are now getting sick of - that's perfectly justified criticism. It's the moaning about something they clearly hate and most likely don't even watch, but "it's cool to dislike Nickelback!"

Personally, I quite like Nickelback... ;)

I was going to thank your post.......until I read the last line.... :pac:

Lee Child set to adapt Jack Reacher novels for TV (but with a taller star)

    https://www.theguardian.com/books/2018/aug/26/lee-child-jack-reacher-novels-on-tv-tom-cruise-archive-public

Delighted at this. Tom Cruise wasn't a good Jack Reacher (but the movies were decent). This has the potential to be a great show. Most of the books were brilliant.

I only read the first 2 books and realised that Child's favourite action is shrugging. Don't know how many times people are described as shrugging.

I'm an EXTREMELY fast reader, I can easier read a paperback in a day, once on holidays I managed to read 5 of his books in 6 days, the last book confused the hell out of me because most of the characters were exactly the same in other books just with difference names. I haven't been able to read his books since, I refuse to watch the movie, ffs they make a HUGE deal out of Reacher being a giant in every book and then they have Tom Cruise play him, f**k off

The movies are actually pretty decent if you ignore that they are supposed to be jack reacher movies. The first one in particular.

    Our Lady, LTD

Ben Kingsley To Star In ‘Our Lady, LTD’ Noir Drama Series Ordered By Epix
Epix has given a formal 10-episode series order to Our Lady, LTD, a modern noir drama starring Oscar winner Ben Kingsley, from Patriot creator Steve Conrad and Epix’s sister studio MGM Television. Production is slated to begin this fall in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with an eye toward a 2019 premiere.

Written by Conrad and Patriot co-producer Bruce Terris, Our Lady, LTD (fka Our Lady of Perpetual Grace), follows James, a young grifter, as he attempts to prey upon Pastor Byron Brown (Kingsley), who turns out to be far more dangerous than he suspects.

Conrad and Terris serve as executive producers and showrunners, with Conrad directing six episodes. Also executive producing are Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch. The series will be produced by MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM.

Our Lady, LTD had been in the works for months and actively casting for awhile, with several other roles close to being filled. The series joins Epix’s lineup of original programming, which includes season two of Get Shorty and the upcoming revival of The Contender, from MGM TV and executive producer Mark Burnett. For 2019, the network has on tap drama series Godfather of Harlem starring Forrest Whitaker, from executive producers Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, and Pennyworth, an origin story about Batman’s best friend and butler, Alfred Pennyworth, from Warner Horizon Television and DC Comics.

This marks a rare major TV series role for Kingsley, who has been largely focused on features, earning four Oscar nominations and a win for Gandhi.

Law & Order: Hate Crimes ordered to series at NBC
This new series is “based on New York’s actual Hate Crimes Task Force, the second oldest bias-based task force in the U.S. The unit, which pledges to uphold a zero tolerance policy against discrimination of any kind, works under the NYPD’s real Special Victims Unit and often borrows SVU’s detectives to assist in their investigations.”

As you might have been able to infer from that last sentence, the Hate Crimes team will be introduced during the upcoming 20th season of Law & Order: SVU before becoming its own series

Loads of us asking that question. From a Netflix perspective, obviously they want the cash since they'd get nothing from the original. They already have a contract with the creators through "The Dragon Prince" so presumably they're happy with the quality of their work.
Why live action? A lot of people would dismiss the original as a kid's cartoon, so there's a large untapped audience for what they know is a great story. Also possibly to remove the horrible legacy of that film, which I refused to watch. This way it'll be done right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,420 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Even then, a live action version will still be seen as a kid's show with all the puppets/CGI animals and would likely be advertised as being based on the cartoon.
But I'm just of the opinion that if it already exists in the medium in some format then why mess with it? Book to movie/TV, TV to movie or movie to TV are all understandable but TV to TV always seems pointless. Same as all these Disney live action remakes.

But I guess why not have another reboot. I'm not paying for it (directly) and the original series is still around. I will likely watch it and hope the effects are believable.

The Webby Award-winning short The Birch is set to terrify Facebook Watch. Crypt TV will produce a 15-episode series for the VOD service based on their viral short of the same name.

The Birch is centered around the dark relationship between a synonymous monster protector in the woods and a pure-hearted teenager who summons her in a time of crisis. The episodes will be told from multiple character perspectives as their lives are indelibly shaped by the titular character.

The original short, which has garnered over 35 million views online, earned a Webby for Best Drama: Individual Short or Episode in 2017 and was featured at Tribeca Film Festival in 2017 as part of Tribeca N.O.W. Special Screenings.

    Resident Alien

‘Resident Alien’: Alan Tudyk To Star In Syfy Pilot Based On Dark Horse Comics Series
Syfy has found its Resident Alien. Alan Tudyk (Con Man, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is set to star in the title role in Resident Alien, a drama pilot based on the Dark Horse comics series by Peter Horgan and Steve Parkhouse, from Universal Cable Productions, Dark Horse Entertainment and Amblin TV. In addition, Sara Tomko (Sneaky Pete), The Closer alum Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund (Silicon Valley) and Levi Fiehler (Mars) are set to round out the series regular cast.

Resident Alien is described as a dark, twisted and comedic fish-out-of-water story. Adapted for television by Chris Sheridan (Family Guy), it follows a crash-landed alien named Harry (Tudyk) who, after taking on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor, slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth — ultimately asking the question, “Are human beings worth saving?”

Tudyk’s Doctor Harry Vanderspeigle is one of the town’s most reclusive citizens. The alien is up to no good, but his mission is sidetracked when the local doctor is murdered and our alien Harry is forced to take his place.

There was definitely never a better time to develop The Boys, considering we're now drowning in super-heroes across every possible medium.

For anyone not in the know, it's basically a graphic novel about a human-led team that keep misbehaving superheroes in check....and it's violent as hell.

The Preacher adaptation is pretty lackluster but alright in its own way...but The Boys is actually a lot more straight forward and with less potentially controversial elements so hopefully it'll be a bit more closely related to the material.
