I was an occasional user of the Ordnance Survey Ireland free-to-view public Mapviewer ( http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer ) but the service appears to have been withdrawn. The link redirects to https://shop.osi.ie/shop/MapViewer.aspx which points me to the GeoHive service. When I click on the GeoHive link marked "Make Your Map", there's nothing there but a dead link: https://map.geohive.ie/mapviewer.html. So, what happened? Will this valuable public service return or is it gone forever?

Yes, the OSI map viewer will be missed for its simplicity but all of the options are there with Geohive, and more. The transparency feature can be very useful and the range of data sets is impressive, but I miss not being able to zoom in using the mouse wheel.

Previously on the Ordnance Survey GeoHive MapViewer it was possible to overlay various modern or historic maps over each other, and adjust sliders so that each one could be faded in or out to easily compare old and new buildings and roads etc. Now the various old and new maps and aerial images are still there but they can only be seen one at a time. Is that feature gone now, or am I just using it wrong? Is this what the comments in this thread are referring to?
It seems to be gone, unfortunately. Being able to overlay maps was so useful. Still searching for an alternative...
I was well used to using the historical maps and other information, but despite all promises I cannot find historical maps at all, nor any of the other information. It is asking me to sign into arc gis, but I have no way of doing that, and I am not clear that it will give me access to historical maps if I do.
This is the replacement for the older OSI online mapping. No need to sign in: you just need to accept the terms and conditions. It has all the historic layers you expect and the updated aerial photography is a vast improvement on the earlier imagery.
