Welcome to the Waterford GAA discussion thread.

This is consistently the most active thread don the GAA forum. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

- Personal abuse of anyone be they other posters, players, managers, referees, pundits etc. Any personal abuse will result in an infraction or a ban.

- Rumours about players'/managers'/anyone's personal lives. This should be self explanatory. Apart from being a dickish thing to do, it can lead to legal trouble for Boards.

- Trolling. Again, self explanatory. Trolls will be banned for a long time.

- Accusations of trolling. Report a post if you suspect it to be trolling. Do not call a troll out on thread as this will be considered back seat modding.

- Speculation into the identity of another poster. This is a site-bannable offence.

This list is not exhaustive. Either myself or another mod may add to this as we see fit. Just because a certain behaviour isn't listed, doesn't mean you can't be banned for it. The general Boards.ie rule of Don't be a Dick always applies.

If you feel a post breaks the rules, simply click this underneath the post in question to report the post and a mod will deal with it as they see fit.

So be civil to each other and happy posting.

Given that the thread regularly descending into tit for tat insults between posters, From now on, it won't be a card but a ban straight away for anything like this. The mod warning is clear in the first post but yet people still ignore it.
Also, I'd like to remind people of the ban on discussing players'/managers'/officials' private lives without any substance. You can be getting into libelous territory there. So a zero tolerance policy will be enforced as well.

Great victory for Limerick. But they are in a lot better a financial position than we are due to being bankrolled by one of the richest men in Ireland. They lack for nothing in resources, can hire any personnel they want and don’t generally have to worry about fundraising like we do.
Not trying to take away from their great achievement but we don’t have anything like their finances unfortunately.
Seán Power may well be the route for us to go now but if the players that won 2 trophies under him have reservations about him as senior manager then it says a lot.
From listening to Declan Hannon’s speech today you can see it’s far from just being a management team that needs to be put in place and any manager will have their work cut out getting the top S & C, nutritionists, coaches, psychologists etc on board.

Looking at all the highlights of the year on the SG we were really off the pace this season. New structure and calender really didn't suite us

Very important few weeks ahead for Waterford Hurling with the new management team appointed. Been in 1B might suite us but Munster is going to be dog eat dog again next year and us with no home games

Is this true and if so the reason why he hasn't got the job. Looking in from the outside he should of being selected weeks ago.

Surely this Limerick win will make us more hungrier for success.

Next year we're gonna see all our players go out and let loose and express themselves and believe they can end the 60 year wait.

Be nice for hurling if Waterford can end that wait. They were unlucky last year in the final i know Galway finished stronger but Waterford did have chances to win that game too. This year they were unlucky too with injuries and few decisions that didn't go their way on the pitch.

But like anything records, ghosts, waits and gaps are there to be broken. 2002 Munster final success happened for Waterford after years and decades of trying. Beating Cork outside of munster in the championship in 2007 was another box ticked and 2017 when they finally beat Kilkenny after years of trying since 1958. Winning the league too after going so long without winning were all successes so Waterford are well capable of winning All Ireland. Just like Limerick they need a game plan and self belief in their abilities and a bit of luck on the way and anything is possible.

Yes exactly, when they interviewed that Limerick player, he said when asked by the interviewer, how do you feel? he answered, " I wont say it's unbelievable because I always believed we could do this".

Its about belief in yourselves.

But it’s also about putting the proper management team in place. Not yes men and also fellas that will make the hard calls about team selection/panelists etc. A clean sweep is needed to rid any of the lasting debris left from the last unsuccessful regime. Players like Patrick Curran, Kieran Power( flying for Dungarvan this year) Colm Roche, Michael Harney and others that weren’t given a decent chance should now be buzzing at the thought of a fresh start for their Waterford careers. The players ARE here only to pick the right ones,as Limerick showed yesterday, with no sweeper in place just the right players in the right positions and being left hurl naturally. Use Shane Bennett to his maximum effect and not have him like a springer spaniel chancing prey around a big field.
Is Sean Power the man to do this or is the problem the background team he has proposed to bring with him? Are certain players afraid of the chop if they are to get the job? If so then the tail is wagging the dog and we’ll be waiting another half century to win the All Ireland.

Great day at Croker yesterday. atmosphere was unreal from the Limerick fans. was on the 40 metre line in the hogan stand in the premium seats on a freebie through work and with a good few Dublin GAA men and they said Mattie Kenny is a shoe in for the Waterford job. CB have already meet him but when i asked had the players meet him they didn't know. great appointment if true but like most things you hear in regards to Waterford GAA you take it with a pinch of salt.

Would be great if true! Hopefully they know something we don’t and it’s being kept a lot quieter after what happened with Pat Ryan.

Kenny might have been expected to get the Dublin job (instead of Gilroy) but he would be a great scoop for Waterford (and I’m pretty sure the players would be very happy with that appointment, if it comes to pass).

Happy for Limerick but pi**ed off that it wasn’t Waterford instead. Most of the Limerick fans around me were nervous wrecks in the last 10 minutes of the match.

Would be a massive appointment going by his credentials with Cuala but winning 2x Club AIs doesn't guarantee intercounty success instantly but he could be what were looking for

Hypothetically if a person received a letter to no longer to enter his home club's GAA ground, barred from his local and was a major issue with a mutiny on a manager you may have concerns. Mattie Kenny has done fantastic with Cuala. His record speaks for itself. I'm not sure if the in's and outs of inter county would suit as much as complete control over a club team.

Total clear out is required. What changes if it doesn’t? Players are happy with the current regime because a lot of them are in a comfort zone and know they won’t be touched. A whole new management keeps fellas on their toes and would hopefully break up the cost cartel created under the last manager.

I think there may have been issues with players at the time he was involved with Galway. Stand to be corrected though.

I've said it all along that I'd be happy with someone from completely outside Waterford hurling circles to get the job IF at least one of Dan and Eoin stayed on. The unity this team has can't be bought and takes a while to develop and a transition to a new management philosophy would be helped by some kind of continuity.

Matty Kenny, Dan and Eoin would be a very good result for me but it needs to happen soon.
The other thing that needs to be done is April club month needs to be completely skipped like so many counties did this year. You need to be off the blocks in top form and ready to square away a couple of points from the first two games. This year we have Cork and Tipp away, and Clare and Limerick in Thurles. That's three 2017 semi finalists to get points from and we really can't be facing into may again with rake of injuries. We need to be ready to shock and awe Munster like limerick and Clare did this year.
