Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Now fielding an outsider: it may not be coming from below at all, but dropping from above!

Bat colony, or birds' nests. Both very possible. The former are protected by law from disturbance, by the way.

We have bats in one of our sheds the droppings are very obvious and our dogs have no interest in them.

It's most likely one of these,
    Heterocephalus glaber sp(Vampirus Gigantus Hibernicus).
They can get to about 7 foot in length.
Best leave town if I were you.

Power not taking any more bets but I got evens on the hedgehog with Boyle sports and early morning reports of rat being backed off the boards.also a strong afternoon market reported for fox after mention of musky smells with big money bets reported and plenty of parade ring whispers

Quick update, Jason from Parks & wildlife came out & said he doesnt think its a fox or badger as there's no other holes or damage in my garden. I asked if it could be a mole but he said we dont have them in Ireland, i would have assumed we did. He thought it might be rats but didnt think they would throw so much dirt around the shed as you cant see any or the wooden floor for earth all over it. I would have thought there would be shredded paper/plastic around the floor if it were rats. Jason found scat, some still fresh so with the lovely weather yesterday i would guess it was less than an hour old, Jason & i both thought the scat looked far too big for rats. The wet scat was in about 5 pieces and would be about an inch long and half an inch wide and, i will try to get some photos of the scat and put them up. Jason is going to come back on Saturday and loan me a trail cam and see if that catches anything over the weekend. At least it gets me out of mowing my front lawn (always an upside) as i told Jason i'd rather not disturb anything until i know what im dealing with

I actually wouldnt mind if it were bats

Bats and hedgehogs i wouldnt mind i just dont want it to be rats or anything that might bite me or my dogs

  • Registered Users Posts: 44 wicklowtown

I spoke to a friend who lives down the road from me and he said he often sees foxes up our way late at night, i dont go out much at night so thats probably why ive never seen them

What dogs do you have? Ours would have dug under the shed or stood around barking at the shed all day if there was even the slightest chance of there being wildlife under it.

This thread has potential. It could go interstellar. Inconsiderate creature better get itself in front of that camera over the weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭idnkph

    Anyone mention a pine-Martin yet?
    Pungent smell from the scat...
Burrows too and will also scat all around their den. They literally sh1te on their own doorstep.
I am nearly sure the rest of the wee fluffy friends ( fox, badger, mink etc) mentioned don't do this.
See lots of them on the move at the moment and not all are close to forests.
They are protected so a live trap and relocation to a suitable area is essential.

Pretty sure they are the very rare 100% pure blooded "scaredy cat" breed of dog.

I'd need pictures of the inside of the shed, otherwise there could be some bet rigging going on. Obviously there isn't a level playing field.

I'm dying of the suspense...what was it? Any updates?
I did begin to think it might be the end of a tunnel that goes all the way to China: or miners looking for gold that somehow lost their way. or something like that.
Put us out of our misery, please!!
    :-) !

We should send a search party.
Assemble at midnight with flaming torches and garlic necklaces.
And what would you need to repel an Australian? Not sure about that one.

From what I understand this works to repel them

For the love of all that is good and holy don't accidentally use this though

Maybe she was trying to open the safe in the shed that nobody could get open, succeeded, and accidentally locked herself inside it.

    Scrap the cap!

Or maybe Jason from parks and wildlife showed up again and we should all chip in for a stand food mixer and a wedding cake.
