Also, I think No voters did not want to be associated with the people 'representing' them in the media. I haven't come out and said I voted Yes because I'm surrounded by a lot of No voters. It works both ways. I wouldn't be so sure elm327. Im a yes voter and I hope more than anything that the yes side wins, but I'm not overly confident. I'm afraid the no side might just cross the line first - I sincerely hope I'm wrong though.
I think in my local area the no side had a more visual campaign with posters etc. Also, among my family and friends, in comparison to the marriage referendum, pretty much all the younger generation were for the referendum and the usual suspects, older & religious people were against it. But this time there's more of the younger generation than I would have thought that are on the no side. And that worries me.

The higher turnout will favour the Yes side I think, more so than he No side.

I voted Yes because I want my daughter to have a choice when she gets older.

I've been a foreigner way too long to go back to vote, I'm fairly sure I'm no longer on the register - would hope not after 7 years

I would love it, love it if the end result mirrors the poll above. There would be a lot of salty people if a 80/20 result came through. Can't see it though.

Voting done at around 1pm. Crowd was a busy enough as normal.
Result hard to call. I heard of a few Yes that I'm surprised with and the same with No's.
Most just made up their own minds at the end of the day and the campaigns hadn't much of an effect on them.

I think it was just something my husband said. He is staunchly yes and we discussed it the other night. We both had our little one with IVF so I’m acutely aware of the whole journey of the fetus! I think we did it for our daughter. He said we dont know what might be on the road ahead for her, and he just said if she wants/ needs a termination, he doesnt want her to have to book a Ryanair flight and go through all that stress. He also said that obviously as her Dad if that situation arose, he would hope to talk her out of it. I think it was his words I thought of as I walked to the booth to cast my vote!

Id say theres a few fearing a narrow No vote but I dont think it will happen. The No campaign has primarily been fearmongering and negativity and IMO not credible with facts and as such I dont think theyll win because of it.

Voted Yes because the constitution is not the place for this. It never was and only ended up there because of meddling by one side to shut down anything on thr subject regardless of the circumstances.

It's standard practice to publish a draft of proposed changes to the law if a referendum is carried, as we saw in the children's referendum and the marriage equality referendum.

And without getting into a discussion about the content, the government couldn't not publish a draft really. The No side would have completely gone to town making all sorts of claims about what the new laws would say, and they'd be very hard to counter without draft legislation out there. It puts a framework on the discussion and gives people something to refer back to.
