Is it illegal to tear down posters

Like you see some bs advertising like 20 signs of brainwashed VOTE NO everywhere. Are they authorised to be put up and can I tear them down for spreading fake information? There is one thing I cannot handle and that is propaganda.

What you have done is signal to the more extreme elements of the no campaign that if they stage damaging their own posters they can influence people like you to change the way you vote. They have already been caught a number of times using deception tactics like planting "protesters" in legitimate prochoice marches and handing out fascist placards to unsuspecting marchers.

Again the issue at hand should guide how you vote. The campaign run by either side should be immaterial to how you exercise to cast your vote. If it is then imho you should not have a vote.

So let me get this right.

You're allowing the "carry on" of certain yes supporters to influence your decision on allowing women the right to terminate their unwanted pregnancies?

"Attitudes" shouldn't have any say whatsoever in this, you're basically using the equivalent of "oh of course this person is right but I won't agree with them because I don't like their attitude".

That's such a petty reason to deny women the right to a choice, I really hope you re-think your reasons for voting no.

I 100% agree with this sentiment.
There is a worrying trend towards demonising anyone who doesn't agree with or who spreads either poorly researched or outright lies.
Not just in this current Pro-Choice campaign but in most binary social debates ongoing.
For example, The Rugby Rape trial, The US gun Debate, The Housing Crisis and so on...
The spread of social media, honestly seems to have reduced the majority of issues to the lowest common denominator argument and that is the one that looms loudest and largest when trying to discuss these issues.

Rhetoric, logic, research and the basic act of forming an opinion before reacting seem to be falling by the wayside.

As for the OP hating propaganda, its a point I again agree with.
But can the OP not see the vehemence of their reaction is directly framed by the propaganda of the Pro-choice side?

I am Pro-Choice, be that choice abortion, adoption or continuance.
I am happy to debate the reasoning for my belief that Dogma and ignorance have no place on either side of the debate.
I am disgusted by some of the outright lies on the No side and allowed be publicly advertised.
Tearing down the posters is not the way to address that IMO...
The way to address it is to address the lie, point out the mistruth, ask those purporting those words are correct to lay out their proof and rebut it!

Not to descend to the level of criminal damage by tearing down posters or trying to outscream them.

I don't get the logic of voting against what you initially thought was right just because you don't agree with the tactics/behaviour of other people who also think it's right but just express it in a different way or came to the conclusion in a different way.

It's not a sign of a well thought out opinion is it?

I've seen loads of video's being shared on Facebook of people tearing down posters in Limerick. I think there is some sort of turf war going on or something.

I just wish the people that put the posters up actually think about placement and not restrict views for road users and pedestrians.
Some of them are in daft places.

Which I can absolutely understand and agree with....BUT.....if you let your opinion be swayed by the fundamentalists (which ever way) you are doing exactly what they want.

It's quite simple. For the duration of the campaign the posters are legal and erected with the permission of the council. You may not remove or destroy the property of somebody else. However, they do not have permission to put posters on ESB poles and ESB may remove them for safety reasons if they wish.

There deffinitely is a turf war happening, I think part of the issue is the no campaign's postering has been SUPER aggressive

That was always the big danger for the yes campaign particularly when the militant feminists got involved and their only argument is to attack the no side and alienate many who are not on the coalface of the issue who may decide it not an issue they want to vote upon.

I disagree totally. The fervent supporters of both sides have their minds made up - same with any vote. But there's a huge swathe of those who are not sure whether to vote or not and their votes are what the two groups are targeting. I disagree with this too - sometimes you are divided yourself and not voting is the best outcome for you. Two members of my family are gay - one is married. On the posters, the statements are like "statistics" - you can bend any statistic to suit your argument. Statistics statistics statistics - so unless you have absolute proof that their statement is legally incorrect and not incorrect in your understanding, its wise to simply ignore it.

btw the No side is loving all the publicity these posters are getting - especially from the yes side. I don't think I've heard any actual argument for a yes vote other that "the no side are wrong".

And if I vote, I'll be voting yes, but I think the yes side are alienating the voter.

Anyway it is illegal to remove the posters once they are legally erected and the wording is legal. Personally any poster erected outside my home that is an obstruction, causes my kids distress or contains lies will be removed. No matter who/side puts it up.

I agree. I would like to tear them all down, it's just that vote no is everywhere and barely seen any vote yes. As I've said I have only seen it once but yes I would take down everything.

Whatever the outcome of this poll I think we all should petition our TDs and councillors to ban outright the antiquated use of posters for elections. All the information is available through multiple different media and from an environmental aspect it is shameful we still engage in this form of campaigning. The only downside I see is for the businesses printing these posters although I suspect a large number are done overseas anyway.
