When will this recent culture of perpetual self-victimisation end? It's just gotten utterly ridiculous thanks to the disconnect to reality offered by the internet. When challenged, in the real world, on these 'flash card' statements, very few can actually back it up with reasoned debate.

But there won't be. Any suggestion that women should be encouraged towards personal responsibility or to be educated about the risks/dangers in the world would be victim blaming... Although i do think women should receive some lessons in how to refuse sexual advances... you'd think it would be obvious but apparently some women won't verbally say no/stop!, and expect vague body language to be sufficient. But that's victim blaming too so I shouldn't really be suggesting it.

I wonder do they realise that they could do the same as men. Be wary of other people, require trust to be gained over time and experience, and not put yourself into dodgy positions without having friends nearby to back you up?

Doesn't mean you have to be actively suspicious of everyone, but put your personal safety first. Seems logical to me.

All this talk that's it's a disgrace and terrible that in this country a woman cannot walk home alone is driving me mad.

I'm a 35 year old male and know Limerick well. Despite crime in Limerick dropping hugely in recent years there are plenty of areas I wouldn't walk through alone. If I'm somewhere I'm unfamiliar with I would be extra cautious.

Not walking home alone applies to both genders but as usual the lunatics try to turn it into another fight in the ridiculous gender wars.

Nope, some users merely argued that it was possible for someone to be refused consent at one stage of an evening, but yet still genuinely believe they'd been granted it at another. OK, just so there can be no doubt about this, there are to be NO screenshots of, or links to Aodhan O'Riordan's tweet posted. Any that have been posted so far have been removed, which tbh would give a fair indication that you're not to post it again. This instruction is based on advice we have received in the admin forum as it is now the subject of a potential legal action, so removing the tweet isn't something that has been done lightly, but rather to ensure that Boards doesn't get embroiled in any future mess that may ensure.

I hear you but IMHO, that’s probably one of the lesser liabelous posts I’ve seen on social media over the last few days- you might wish to revise your warning for ANY item of social media commentary that appears to liable anyone connected with the trial and to think first before quoting ?

It is nothing to do with "this site", if a court later finds it to be defamatory and websites continued to publish it then they are on the hook for damages too. Its the law of the land and no website is above it. I agree that it is sh1t and frustrating but the blame for that belongs not to Boards but to Fianna Fail and their 2009 Defamation Act which allows the wealthy to scare the bejaysus out of the rest of us. Anyway ORiordain took the tweet down pretty quickly which is telling. If you see an apology from ORiordain over the next couple of days then that is his lawyers implementing a legal strategy to try to mitigate the potential damages because apologising to a victim of defamation can form part of your defense if there is any subsequent legal action. ORiordain has been put on notice of pending legal action so it is his move now. What happens over the next couple of days will be interesting.
