He needs to grow a set, but at this stage with next Sunday and May 13th been critical then he has missed a chance. O'Donoughue agree is a fine player, but he has been given the FBD and league to blood in. Loftus has been fupped around, game in, game out, 1/2 a game, 10 minutes. You can't build confidence or gain experience from bit parts.

Thanks to mayogaabloghttp://mayogaablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/FBD-2018-table.jpg Rochford even sent last years squad away to Malaysia for the start of it. For most of the league it was a B team. Plenty of people on the fringe got chances, few took them. Team that played Roscommon in Round 4 of FBD: Robbie Hennelly; Eoin O’Donoghue, Ger Cafferkey, Caolan Crowe; Colm Boyle, Paddy Durcan (0-1), James Stretton; Stephen Coen, Danny Kirby; Fionn McDonagh (0-4, two frees), Diarmuid O’Connor (0-1), Conor O’Shea (0-1); Neil Douglas (0-1), Jason Doherty (0-1, free), Ciaran Treacy (0-2). Subs: Kevin McLoughlin for O’Connor, Jason Gibbons for Boyle, Shairoze Akram for O’Shea, Peter Naughton for McDonagh, Jamie Oates for Crowe, James McCormack for Kirby. Loftus couldn't catch a ball into his chest on Sunday. Maybe he's not the answer that we want him to be. I think it's borderline delusional to be saying lads haven't been given their chance. It's more than likely brought on by a desperation to find these magic few forwards that we don't have.

That's because all of these are written in advance and filed away. After Sunday I'm beginning to think it's time to start the "Mayo Football 2011 to 2017 - A reflection" post and keep it on file for a very short while.

He was dropped in and around the Clare game when we went back to our running game. He wasn't harshly treated, he just doesn't fit into that style really unless he bulks up (plenty were saying he needed that). It's a shame because I think he had a good league before that and I think he's a tidy, intelligent footballer. Adam Gallagher might argue with you about a forward not getting a chance. He has taken his in the sense that he has made an impression.
Audioslaven wrote: » Look I can understand about Boland as he is light but the fall from grace would have knocked his confidence out the door. I don't think he was playing any worse than anyone else last year. He was actually holding his own for a guy just in. The point is he has not tried anyone new in the forwards in the league in a place where we could do with developing some talent. If we don't have the guys then develop younger panel members - Why not give Loftus and Boland consistent starts and consistent game time in the league. These are the future at the moment and he has not done this. He has given Gallagher a bit but not to a great level either. if you look over the starting team sheets for the league you will see the seasoned players are starting but look we all see it differently so we move on

He has no future vision imo and I think we will pay for this when he leaves. Boland is another example who got harsh enough treatment as well. There has not been a new guy given a chance in the forward line in the league and the emphasis to develop young guys experience is not a priority for him. One poster when on about Loftus at the Galway game, but he had zero support inside and when he got near to the ball, 2/3 galway guys were on him. Galway's tactic made loftus look bad as we were slow in our play getting the ball inside. I am not saying Loftus is the answer but you have to give guys a chance and give them a sustained period of playing time, if you want to develop them.

Their first game in a jersey they are going to be nervous etc. Aside from the 1st game and possibly the 2nd, in the game against Rossies 12 of the 15 starters were experienced, blooded players. Against Sligo 14 of the 15 were experienced or blooded.

Kept us in it versus Derry, sublime ball for Andys goal v Kerry. The guy is extremely talented & hopefully he can fulfil his potential. Eoin O'Donoghue was in that development panel with Gallagher, Reape James Carr, Ruane & Cuniffe. So thats 2 by my reckoning stepping up in a big way. James Carr must be injured which is disappointing as he was name-checked by Andy in a couple of interviews towards the end of last season. Reape must not be in the condition required yet for this level & Ruane was poor in the FBD game he played. Cuniffe has not featured at all, not great considering how stuck we are at number 3. They are our main hopes coming from the U-21 winning team that are not already included
