I went from a 2005 2 litre Santa fea to a 2007 1.8 litre Mazda 5 and my Insurance (fully comp) went from e865 down to e536 this year.. Thrilled with myself.. I had been with a broker for years thinking I was getting a good deal, but decided to look for quotes myself this year and got a much better quote with Allianz

Only been in the country since December, so their underwriters wont cover me. The system is well against me on this unfortunately. I paid less than 1,000 AUD back home for comprehensive on a $20k car when i was 21. INsurance here is absolute robbery.

You can definitely do better than €4600, i'd recommend calling the AA - they were the most keen to get me on their books and offered the most competitive fully comp insurance.

How much NCB do you have? If it's low they are reasonable enough but if you have a fair bit of NCB it's dear enough.

Because its more common, more likely those models to be in a crash. I had a mk5 04 1.9tdi golf a few years. Upgraded to 07 BMW 118d and i got a refund to upgrade, something like €67 back, and when i asked girl on phone, she simply said its not a common car. This was a few years ago

I agree, however I found it suprisingly difficult to pick up a small engined car in good condition that wasn't either ancient or overpriced. I suppose people keep those cars in the family and pass them down. I did get a very good deal on the golf though. How would a golf being common have a negative effect on the price? Surely a more common car would reduce price as easier to get parts etc?

I wouldn't be able renew with BoxyMo anyways after first year, as 26 is their age limit. I'm mostly just concerned with any hidden costs they might try and land me with.

As much as I hate the idea of the limitations around BoxyMo, the difference in price is enough to make me consider their poorly reveiwed service.
Can anyone with experience with them fill me in on possible hidden costs and mainly how much do the top-up KMs cost on average?

Anyone working in insurance should feel ashamed to be passing on these ridiculous quotes and anyone involved in the fraudulent activities that are supposedly propping up these prices should be stripped of their benefits, banned from roads for life and sterilised to prevent future impacts on society.

I have 6 years NCD from Australia, been driving 9 years without ever even a parking ticket and im getting fleeced for €4,600 unless i can find a way around.

I think starting off with a 1.4 golf doesn't help, i started with a 1.0 corsa. Golfs are very common also so doesn't help the price
My ex used boxymo, it was grand for the first year, but pain in the ass if you encounter a speed limit less than 50kmh as its hard to drive any slower

Aviva - no quote, they claim not to insure cars over 14 years old, but mine failed the criteria straight away, despite not being that old yet. Changing to 08 would give me quotes of 500-700 depending on the car picked.

Liberty - €804 (TPFT)

When it comes to Liberty they found a sneaky way around marketing preferences, though:

You have to accept T&C, Data Privacy and Marketing all at the same time, unless you spot a little link underneath to opt out:mad: Sneaky way. Most customers would fall for it I guess as You cannot continue with a quote without ticking it.

Have two more quotes coming in later, one from the company group scheme, hopefully they can be under €700... Could be worse I guess.

Apologies for going ot with this marketing issue, but shame on them tbh.

I guess so, I've had a quote from them before but never been insured by Aviva so I would be a new customer.

I live near a well known rough spot but they're not able to climb the gates.

Renewal up from €750 for an 05 Honda Jazz to €1045 for the Civic. Some Quotes are ridiculous AXA = €1620, Aliance €1200 or so. Aviva Semi-reasonable at €832, but by far the best so far is BOI at €630.

All of the above are for fully comp and Class 2 business use.

I'm going to ask my current Broker to match BOI and see what happens. Otherwise its off to BOI.

So it comes around again. Despite a newer car, Allianz have jumped slightly and are not budging (570euro), but the AA won't even quote me, neither will anyone else.

Now 20years driving experience with no tickets, fines or crashes, my partner is exactly the same, and no one will quote us. WTF?!?
