Insane snow the past hour or two in dublin 5. Just walked down to the coast road, the wind was raw and the snow just relentless coming from howth direction. Snow starting to accumulate towards dolly mount strand. Just amazing to see it.

A few light flurries here in North Tipperary at the moment. Today's heavy snow has now frozen and the roads and foot paths are treacherous.

Sounds like north Dublin with all the fun. South side and North Wicklow morning. Hoping this changes

    What a crazy day!

Drove Dub - Naas and back today taking it handy was fine. Won't do same tomorrow due to visibility issues!

Lamp post watching in Tallaght now and best way to describe it is the snow dancing! Few mins of standard snow falling then few mins of driving snow!

The roads near us have been treated quite well... neighbours all got cars manouvered today so we are all ok and own cars safe from any strays that may come onto the road.

    Hope everyone enjoys the rest!

Went for a walk around the Old Bawn area in Tallaght, roads and footpaths are very icy. Not much fresh snow in the last 3 or 4 hours.

I'm in Old bawn to ðŸ˜

Anyone in around tuam give me update on the conditions.

BIG flakes now in whiteout conditions. D5. Excellent night. Would you believe, I actually missed out on the 2nd cold spell of 2010 because I was on holidays! I swear, I left literally the day when it got bad! The November 2010 thundersnow is unforgettable. My brother and I woke up in shock because of the lightning. Would love a recreation of this later tonight (asking for too much, because tonight and last night alone are memorable!). Tyre tracks being covered up instantly here.

EDIT: WTF, big gust of wind here sent the snow flying up from the ground!!

Jeez missing out here today in Kilcullen Co Kildare, the shift to a more easterely wind sees us about 20 miles to the south of a big streamer line. Angelsey rain shadow very noticeable

I'm still stuck in work in Dublin city centre, can anyone tell me if it's snowing in D1? :D (I'm in a windowless room!)

Can't tell you about the snow but wondering how your getting home?!

Can anybody update what the roads are like if the snow is sticking to it? Or is it too much of a slushy wet mess to stick?

Here in Dublin 9 paths and road have frozen again so everything is sticking

Lamp post watching is well and truly over for me - all the windows are frozen and covered in snow. Heavy falls last night, this morning and non stop for the last 4 hours - can’t imagine what tomorrow will bring!! - Tullamore

I'm seeing the comparisons to 2010. For my area specifically, it's nothing compared to 2010. 2010 had far more impressive snow here than today. Nevertheless, it has been beautiful! I cannot complain.

Not in terms of snow depth -yet(tomorrow and Friday may well change that), but the cold is very impressive. i am convinced if we had this a month ago we would have broken the all time cold temperature recorded during winter. As it is todays temperature in Valentia must be one of the lowest every recorded for the time of year there.

Absolute BLIZZARD in Dublin 15 (Blanch/C/knock) ..........15 cm
yesterday and earlier ..add another 5 cm..............20 cm and still bucketing down!!!

Thank you. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow evening/Friday. Sheds open to the east with cattle and sheep in them. My fear is that they will fill with snow in the blizzard. Sheep are on the point of lambing too.

Don't sheep in Scotland and Norway and Canada endure snow during lambing season all the time. I would imagine they are hardier than you give them credit for.

The mother in law is staying with us for the week. It has started bucketing it down in the last hour and we can't get her away from the window. I suppose we'll have to let her in.

I knew we had a fairly steady drip from the overflow pipe, wasn't expecting this though:

Long, heavy shower in Clonmel over the past hour. Wasn't sticking during the day, but there's about 1-2 cm on the ground now. Wasn't really expecting anything significant here before tomorrow, so nice surprise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,111 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    great snow across D5/D3 -

big flakes filling all the removed snow today -
Ground level at highest level yet.

I think travel tomorrow morning could be worse than expected - as there is a great base for this stuff coming down.

Looks way more than predicted precipitation

Blizzard snow in Dublin 24, fine powder type, odd as you can "see " the wind with it :)

Same here in Blessington Catrat, I think when the wind veers more ene then we get it. Should have more by morning and then all out blizzard tomorrow night.
