This is one of the most active forums on Boards.ie. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

- Rumours about players'/managers'/anyone's personal lives.

Fair fks to galway I say. Completely rolled over and had their bellies tickled from 2013-15 but are really fronting up now and throwing themselves about physically.

What exactly was cynical? The last five minutes was pointless. Game was already over. Previous 65mins Galway defended in numbers without the ball which Mayo had no idea how to break down and when Galway had the ball they broke at pace and got their scores. I don't remember a whole lot of cynical play apart from when the game was up.

But they are cynical? Im not trying to knock them, or say that is why mayo lost, its just a reality, they approach the game in a cynical fashion.

How many times were mayo players deliberately fouled on the galway 45 today? How many times were they deliberately fouled after winning a kickout? In particular a galway restart?
These are deliberate spoiling tactics employed to stop a breakaway at stages where galway would potentially be out of their defensive setup. They hold onto the ball on the ground to buy time for everyone else to get back. That is cynical football. You mightnt lile to hear it but that is factually accurate and id say the same if mayo were doing it.
Im not being critical of it, or even finding fault, but to suggest those arent cynical tactics is a bit extreme.

Galway are gaining players in the right spots, Sean Andy at 3 was excellent, brannigan at 12 is a super footballer, Cooke at 9 will be a good midfielder. Shane Walsh is a class player. The future is Galway. Mayo have maybe o Donoghue coming through that's about it.

A jersey pull isn't a black card, ever.

You need to pull a player to the ground. Having your jersey pulled and falling to the ground is not a black card.

Should have been a yellow though, I thought.

I’d rather see a bit of pulling and dragging which is on display in every game,then a sneaky elbow in the head from a cowardly weasel.

It's not a black card.

It's neither a body check or a deliberate pull down to ground.

It's a jersey pull. A cynical one, but not a black card.

So would i. Indeed conroys standing on said weasels leg and then pretending he was hit in the face and diving to the ground was well up in the coward stakes also. If oshea done that he would be carrying a cross up a hill as we speak. Neither really relevant to the incident in question though.

Fact is, that was an obvious black card. The guy who thinks that because it was the jersey that was pulled it somehow doesnt qualify - i dont know what rule book you are reading but it isn't the right one.

So what does he have to pull him by if not the jersey? His ear? Kindly point out the part of the rule that stipulates that it doesnt apply for jersey pulls...
The guy is deliberately pulled back and ends up on the ground, and it wasnt one of these where he looks to go down either.
It was 100% a black card. However even if he was going to bottle the decision, he should have at least given a yellow and a stern warning. He done nothing and allowed the game to descend into a what it did.

Shocking bad from Mayo again.

Forwards again had some bad misses and poor shot selection.
No one impressed in the slightest.

I know it only February and Mayo have a tendency to play rubbish until August but I'd like to see them put a few performances together at least.

Kildare and Donegal are pointless, Tyrone are just about in positive territory like ourselves, need to pick up wins in those three games

Everything that’s wrong in the game on display today.
The last 25 mins there were 18 frees ? 10 yc and 3 red cards, cynical play , pulling and dragging on and off the ball, nasty and dangerous tackles , a huge melee with team officials getting involved as well.

It all made for horrible viewing.

The GAA is in serious danger of turning people away from the game.

I’m not sure how you can referee a game in its current format.

Players feigning injury, off the ball antics and cynical play from both teams. Players argued with officials and seemed to want to deliberately hurt their opponents.

It’s really not a pretty spectacle and it seems to be getting worse .

It's not the rule. I hate standing beside lads that don't know the rules. Galway took a quick free in the second half Comer drove through and was dragged back by Mayo players. Free in. That's all. A black card is a pull down. Not a pull back. If both players don't end up on the ground it's not a black card. I'll link the rule book if you need full clarity.

Fully agree. That isnt sport or anything near it.
I would say if a ref uses his head and gives out some early cards, and there was plenty opportunity to, then it doesnt descend into this so easily. However, when it does id be all for retrospective action using video footage. For example, what other sport would see conroy dragging oshea along the ground, result in no action being taken?

Post the parts where a) it states the black card rules dont apppy if you pull the jersey, and b) it stipulates that both players must end up on the ground.

Also, i remember the comer quick free. Boyle didnt pull him back, he fouled him in the tackle and got a yellow for it.

Mayo were outclassed something scary today, and by a team who are far from world beaters (with all due respect)

To the lads who wanted donie , Seamie etc dropped last year and were criticizing Rochford for not blooding new players I’ll ask again .

Nobody is claiming that those are the reasons mayo lost though. We accept we deserved to lose the game.
