And the street where the car war parked was a different direction to the lockers, presumably.

So a statement from the gym categorically refuting any suggestion that they gave Kelly the bolt cutters should be imminent I expect

If my business was being accused of breaking some law surrounding equipment being given to the public on the national press and airwaves - I'd be quick to deny it publicly and quick smart.

Any chance of linking to these rules? As someone who uses bolt cutters from time to time I would like to make sure I'm being compliant with them too btw.

That's true, and we've yet to create "a city on a hill" but at least the Republic is both progressive and progressing. I would imagine it is a 'discretion' thing. Have never seen general rules covering them. But Wheeliebin might have them saying as he mentioned there were rules governing such things.

Nobody is hurt here, nobody is out of pocket and as far as I can see, Kelly complied with the notice - 'if you damage the clamp, you pay for it'.

Maybe, because there was no parking available/he didn't realise it was a no parking zone/he said, feck it, who is going to be up clamping at this time of the morning.

Before he did this, anyone of us could have done the same. There was no need for 'encouraging'.
It is an option open to us if we are prepared to pay for any damage.

When Wheelie comes back with these strict 'rules/laws' on gym receptionists giving out bolt cutters to regular customers, I will hold my counsel on that.

Well if these 'strict rules' don't cover gyms and Gym workers, what is the point of even saying it?
I have lent, as I said, ladders and a whole range of potentially lethal tools to friends and neighbours. There is nothing in my insurance to say I shouldn't and no laws that i am aware of governing this.

Elections and referendums aren't won by appealing to the altruism of the people.

I think we have a social duty to respect the democratic wishes of our neighbours, and not to justify the actions of those who saw themselves as soldiers but instead shot census workers, bombed shops, hotels, restaurants etc.
