My last company specifically had in it's sick policy that time lost due to injuries sustained plying sport were not covered on the company sick policy. They expected the club insurance to cover that. If he was commenting on this, it must be that there was an issue with the insurance paying out meaning that he ultimately was out of pocket. Without knowing the sums involved, that hardly seems fair. I'm sure most players would tolerate losing small sums for physio appointments and the like from time to time but if it was significant, that's a different story.

He states that Clare hurling is like "communism behind the Iron Curtain" with Ger very critical of Tony Kelly's and Colm Galvin's workrate, for example and their style of play also being subject to Ger's ire. What do people think of Loughnane's latest comments? I'll be very interested into what other posters think.

He spent years launching his verbal diarrohea at Tipp, then turned his attention to Galway so now its back to his own crowd. He is full of sh*te and was shown up for that in his managerial exploits post 97 as well. He happened to come into the Clare job when they possessed probably one of most well balanced defensive units ever in the game, at least 5 of them were once in a generation types and he very cleverly and successfully convinced them that the whole country was laughing at them and he created this massive chip on their shoulder, siege mentality type group feeling( this can still be seen in some of that teams managerial styles today). Don't get me wrong he won two AI's with pretty much one top forward, two at a very big stretch which was a fabolous achievement but they didnt exactly play swashbuckling hurling themselves so the Iron Curtain analogy is a little ironic at best. Tony Kelly and Colm Galvin, the former in particuar, are simply exhausted and should never have been near the league panel, there are absolutely no pluses to them been involved in league games in January and February.

Clareman wrote: » I get the impression that management aren't sure if Duggan is going to be a starter so they don't want to leave the frees with him in case he's not. Free taking and puck outs are going to need sorting in the next few weeks, we have to have a free taker who's scoring 90% of frees and a puck out strategy to secure more than 50% of our own puck out.

Wrt management, i genuinely feel they are trying to maximise their attacking components they have at their disposal by playin six forwards up front with a commitment to have a 3 player full forward line. That said the distribution to the inside line was cronic last year, with alot of indecision around the half back/mf where bad decisions/pot shots were taken. Im giving them this year to come to a solution to this problem, especially as it is a pretty radical change from Davy's defensive game strategy. I didnt see much improvement against Tipp but its January, maybe i have more patience than Ger but still. They have alot of very good 'shooters' in Galvin, Kelly, Fitz, Conlon who are comfortable in backing themselves from scoring from 60+ yards. The key is finding a balance to theyre game plan and individual licenses they are handing out. So for team selection, McGrath is dropped tomorrow. Just cant imagine a Clare team lining in the summer without him. Its good to put a rocket under certain players, espeically some that feel that they are undroppable. One thing that probably escaped the Clare public is that the workrate of the mf and forwards was just not what it should be. I hope that both the management and players identify this, and improve on it. While Ger makes some points, we really need to give a management 2 years to start philosophical be judgmental on the direction they want to take Clare hurling. For tomorrow's game, looking at the two sides im backing a Clare win.

As for the Clare senior footballers, not much you can say other than Division 3 is on the cards after a 2nd half collapse where they were outscored 0-15 to 0-3 against Meath. A week of soul searching awaits. Other thing to add is Clare's fitness is deplorable though.

It'll be between Louth and Clare for relegation to division 3 I fear.

I though Colm Galvin was outstanding, in linking up the play and laying of passes for scores. Conlon and Malone were also very prominent in the first half. Honestly we really should have been more ahead at half time, we miseed two other goal chances, aswell as points (Podge being a big culprit) aswell as some downright bizarre frees McGrath gave KK to keep them in the game. Second half, the game got more physical and KK came into it well. We still should have pushed on but again our decision making and shooting was crazy, like v Tipp last year. I thought McInerney and Reidy had good second halves, as did Galvin too, who was my motm. Tony Kelly worked hard but again he is taking the wrong option to shoot too often. Just lads its so simple... wides and frees, please please keep them down. Its extraordinary a team can go to Nowlan Park nowadays and win despite having 10 frees conceded and 18 wides. But they will be our downfall for sure if we dont fix these long standing issues.
