Minister Naughten said that the 20000 extra premises were submitted to eir in November so the decision may have already been made although he says assessment is ongoing. Whether eir or the Department will make known the decision is unknown. I'd try to get talking to some of the KN guys doing the work as they will be best placed to tell you what the situation is. The guys replacing poles might not know the details but look out for guys spray painting poles or manholes as they will know where the distribution boxes are going to be placed.

The map claims 220 are live, while the press release states 965! on the plus side, that is alot of very rural homes getting FTTH that probably never even had ADSL, Tara isn't really a village, more of a scattered townland spread over a large area with a mixture of ribbon developments and one off housing.
Councillor Damien O'Reilly on Facebook wrote: #Update below, Kilmessan #Broadband #Kilmessan is being serviced via the Tara exchange. And I’ve been assured it is not full. However, there was an error made before Christmas which resulted in all of Kilmessan being added to the list of passed premises (or “pre-qualified” in eir speak). Unfortunately there is still a bit of civil engineering work to be done between #Tara and #Kilmessan to complete the connection. Rather than remove these premises off the system, which can’t be done for some reason the decision was made to use a code visible to the retail sales team which shows that the exchange is full. This was done to prevent any further sales taking place until after the civil work is completed. They anticipate this work to be completed in the next 3-4 weeks. I’ve asked them to look at communicating better the facts to the sales reps so that they can communicate better to customers who are enquiring about getting a service. Hopefully by the end of February Kilmessan this will be resolved. Regards, Cllr. AidenL wrote: » Actually, I suppose I'll see if splitters are fitted on any of the poles nearer town first, that might indicate that some of the amber houses in the blue zone were going to be connected? I see my overhead line runs through some trees, I'll have to get them trimmed pretty fast if I see any positive movement!
Allison Puny Appetite wrote: » The Department have asked eir to include 20000 extra premises in the rollout. As far as I can tell they cannot compel eir to pass these homes. So, in my opioion, eir can respond several ways: No. We signed a contract for a specified amount of homes. This is what we'll do. We will pass the 20000 extra you've requested but we need to remove 20000 others from the original plan. We will pass the 20000 extra bringing the total to 320000. Which of these they will choose is unknown. If by splitter you mean distribution point (picture attached) then yes the presence of those closer to the town would be a good sign. The reason I mentioned spray paint was I assumed no cable had yet been run. So if you see poles marked with L or manholes with DP closer to the town then it would also signify good news. The process usually entails: Tree cutting > Pole Replacement > Groundwork (ducting, access chambers) > Pole Marking > Cabling > Distribution Boxes
jgbyr wrote: » Thanks for the info. The manhole outside our gate has a number on it. So unless we're added as part of the the additional 20k we're goosed really. The KN guy kept saying we'll be connected regardless what open eir say as it's just outside the gate.
AidenL wrote: » Is the number on the manhole not a good sign?
AidenL wrote: » Poles just went up this week. What does L and DP mean?
Allison Puny Appetite wrote: » L stands for loop I believe. It is to inform the guys running the cable to leave a loop of cable long enough to facilitate the box installation ans subsequently allow the box to be removed from the pole if splicing is required. You can see the loop in the above picture wrapped behind the box. They seem to mark some manholes with DP and I assume it means that a Distribution Point i.e. the above box, is going in the manhole so again leave enough cable.

Thats the end of a long span when it will connect up to the underground fiber. Spool of fiber on the top from the aerial span and spool at the bottom from an underground duct. Anyone know the usual timeline for when these are spliced/connected up?
KeRbDoG wrote: » Some more movement for the rollout in my area, the start of the aerial span and spool at the bottom from an underground duct have been connected up. Not the neatest job, the splice/distribution-box left on the ground a foot or two from the road. Maybe it was home/dinner time?

This cabinet is now live. If you live nearby then high speed services may be available to you. Visit our line / address lookup to test the speed available at your address.

Would have thought if they are run as a separate business which it appears to be then they should have a seperate name - like wholesale deal with all telecom companies from the infrastructure side of things and the retail side is the same as sky, vodafone etc Like the ESB did and now the retail side is Electric Ireland
Gboyd wrote: » Ah, clicking the ‘All’ box has indeed worked. Oddly it changes the icon from green back to blue and states Winter 2018. Oh well, I’ll add my exchange (it’s Timahoe btw) to the list of Q4 exchanges that’ll never happen ....
