Yep happened a lad in our discussion group last year with antibiotics in milk. Not sure were both in same month, must ask him that. The dept inspector concluded he had used too many tubes treating a mastitis case and the accumulation of antibiotics meant there was some still in cows system after the withdrawal period.

Particularily frustrating. I already had two. I'm sealing the samples straight away now instead. Hopefully it works

I think it maybe that the cutter doesn't take a sample with, stronger calves. Have noticed that myself.

what i've noticed is if the gun springs after you take the sample it pops out. you have to slowly release the tagger once your through the ear.

We had two out of 10 that didnt have the sample in them. Cormac tags. Replacements are free though. Dont know about other crowds

Just wondering if many here are farming with their better half? Better half is on career break and other than the wages doesn't miss it.

Better half at home with kids, not easy with only one earner and no leaves etc. Only thing is kids get lots of attention

We have no relations to help with childcare. Her income wouldn't run car and pay for childcare. So it's difficult but people do manage. Not really sure what to do.

Be carefull my better half gave up her job six years ago to look after the three girls with the intention of going back when they were all in school. 6 kids now and still two years before last boy starts schoolðŸ˜ðŸ˜

Was talking to a woman today. Child number 5 due today. Eldest kid is 6. Not many families of that size around anymore

1.80 for replacement tag and postage of 1.95. I wonder do Enfer charge for testing if the sample was empty? Then postage to enfer of second sample

Yeah, you're charged for testing an empty sample.

At that meeting last night, one of the speakers was saying that vets doing a herd test may be able to take blood samples from cattle on the farm without any BVD status to clear up a lot of herds with untested animals. At the least, the vet is supposed to highlight this issue with the farmer before the test, iirc.

Apparently, there are farmers with cows on the farm which have no records of any calvings with a number of years. Some have no records of calvings for 3 or 4 years:rolleyes:

I will but this calf was to go with a batch tomorrow, fr bull, will have to hold on to it now for another week, depending how long it takes to get new tag.

I remember ordereing one for the autumn calving calves, it took ages as they dont have that machine going unless theres a good few orders, hopefully thats not the case in the spring
