If you could get in with a group that is running it then that also helps. I’ll be doing it with a local charity group here in Clare that has a gang going to Dublin every year. So all the long runs are done as a group and there is a bit of craic along the way. Sign up for it and then you’ll have no choice!

Now there are people with slatted houses built on the old track, and in Navan loads of private housing likewise, but for the purpose of creating Greenways the Council seem to have a free hand.

Its one thing the government using CPO's for public projects like roads and sewage schemes - but we are getting into dangerous territory when the government of the day decides to pass laws allowing landgrabbing by big corporations:mad:

The last train to leave Edenderry Co Offaly was a special that was ran after the station had closed. It was ran to bring the Faithful supporters to the All Ireland final of 1961. Offaly vs Down. It still stands as the attendance record for Croke Park. Something over 90,000. Though I'm told that there was in fact many more as gates were opened to allow throngs of people in! The line was subsequently disbanded and offered for sale to adjoining landowners, often split down the middle if different landowners were involved. It was done officially, I recall seeing maps and folio numbers. They were a great place to out winter cattle, good dry lying. Many farmers had round feeders on the old line!

The Kurds were attempting to set up their own state in nothern Syria and were instrumental in the fight against Isis in that part of Syria. The Turks have commenced shelling from Turkey into Syria with a ground offensive into Syria now looking inevitable. Russia controls the airspace so it looks like Turkish warplanes won't have any involvement. Just a bit of international news for ye.
