We have wires crossed alright , I was talking about 300mm clear opening that meant there was no sheeting there at all .
The cladding or wall would only be going to within 300mm of the gutter roughly if you get my drift
I think you were talking about 800mm of space sheeting .

Hard Knocks

Lost a calf with fluid on the lungs.
Not a big calf but needed a pull.
When the shoulder was out allot fluid came out the mouth, everything appeared normal after calving (water on ears). Then calf started lunging & by time I realized & got heifer caught it was too late.
I’ve never come across this before & wouldn’t of expected after all the fluid coming out.
Is there any way of noticing earlier

Don’t know
Had 2 heifers in a pen, 1 had calves & all alright & second sick.
Other pair are doing well
Maybe just 1 of those things, just annoying, but at least it’s outside of the house

Maybe she was a while calving ? Could be just a bit of bad luck that cant be helped either

She was sick a good while and trying to take over the other calf.
Going to feed & sell dry

Thanks for the opinions lads. I think if it were a cattle shed it certainly wouldn't be adequate going by people's opinion here.
For turf, machinery and the like I think maybe I'll get away with it.

fluid coming out isn't that unusual when they're half way out, I'd often give them a sec at that stage just to drain the fluid.....saves ya hanging them after.
I'd suspect deficiency too, be no harm to PM

Thanks, I’ll try that the next time, but hopefully the next time they’ll have calves unassisted.
Would you get the same drain if the cow is lying while calving compared to if she was standing

Slight rant here. Why are water pipes black? Surely some logical person realised at some point they would be needed to be found and that earth is a v similar colour to pipes. Spent an hour trying to follow a pipe through undergrowth and if it was a nice illuminous pink or something my life would be a lot easier!! Of course the problem was right at the end.....
I think I'll be investing in some illuminous paint and dipping all of the pipes in it in future!

You could change any new runs to polybutylene, its blue. Is cheaper, I think and has a bit of give.

I think its to render them less susceptible to going brittle in sunlight.
Also, the fact that it's carbon that's added means that black wavin is a poor choice for running electric fence through under gaps etc.

Got on well. The poor fella-I don't think he knew what he was in for. I was laughing as one thing he learned was how much a cow ****es in a week!! TBH I should have got him weeks ago as it was just getting too much. It's nothing particularly difficult but having someone else just makes a massive difference.
Seriously thou young lads aren't able for manual labour-he was dead by4!!!

Might never happen again......lying down wouldn't be as effective alright.
Don't know if you ever experienced iodine deficiency in your herd, calf comes out, his heart is beating, but no matter what you did he won't take a breath.
But that can happen one off as well

First calf born here this evening in cubicle sheds. Cow only dried last week. First calf is always a drama. She must have held to first service.
