Kearney was solid. Nothing more nothing less. But if Conway, Stockdale and Sweetnam were to shine, we needed that. The starting wingers grew into the game so much that Sweetnam replaced RK.

The two kicks he caught in the same period somewhere in the middle of the second half where he just strolled to position as if he was just fielding practice kicks in a pre-game warm up, showed his total mastery of positioning and a cool head, suggesting a contemptuous 'lads, is that the best you got ? I could mop these up in my sleep' attitude, that must be so demoralising to the team then kicked them to him. These kind of things have a big impact on the mood and momentum of a game.

stats might be lies. But look at them. No clean breaks, no tackles made, very few meters gained.
Your only argument is "he did nothing great but nothing bad either".. That's not triggering consequences when the team is dominant, I agree with you all. It will trigger some against better teams

I wish we'd stop nitpicking the performances of players and instead praise them.

I thought Ruddock was excellent when he came on. He's always been a horse in contact, someone who relishes the physical game, but he put a bit of footwork in to beat that South African defender for his try. I thought he was unlucky to not make the starting side and he laid down a marker tonight. We've got players getting better and better before our eyes. It's brilliant.

Have you forgotten what country you live in?

The Irish do have a despairing quality of gaiety, but they have also a dour and brooding ghost that rides on their shoulders and peers in on their thoughts. Let them laugh too loudly, it sticks a long finger down their throats. They condemn themselves before they are charged, and this makes them defensive always.

My argument is he did exactly what his coach wanted him to do. He executed the gameplan. The gameplan led to a 38-3 win over South Africa. We gave SA nothing. Our back 3 were never caught out of position that i can remember. If you cant see that value and are only interested in negativity then your clearly just being negative for the sake of it

Stats have context too which you will conveniently ignore.

Kearney got pinged for one penalty for holding on and had a few other mistakes .

To be fair to Kearney that looked like it was down to a poor clear out from SOB.

Kearney ran it back a lot tonight. I kept thinking he was going to run into his own players though, but I think that was down to the jerseys.

I personally blame sitting through the Denmark game afterwards for my negativity and i apologise but i feel a little dead inside

Agreed Ruddock had a fine game. He has being playing very well for a while now. As for comments on Kearney, he did what Rob does, he played well if not terribly exciting. It was a leap for Joe to start Stockdale and Conway. Now that he has seen what dynamic wingers can do against (arguably poor) Tier 1 opposition maybe he can the benefit of a more attacking back 3 than he is has selected in the past. This was a very good day for Irish rugby. We moved a step in the right direction at last

Yh there was a poor clearout but it was Louw I think who got a great position over the ball. It happens

When it comes to controlling a game Murray and Sexton are the best in the world. Smith and Barrett may have a slight attacking edge, but if you're looking to exploit an opposition's weakness I'd take our lads every time. We're so lucky the careers of these two overlapped.

Great win yesterday and you'd think the next two matches should be won too. I'd like to see a few new combinations tired out over the next two game. Henderson and Ryan starting in second row together is one another would be stockdale and Byrne on the wings, that'd be interesting attaching wise. Don't think we'll see henshaw and bundee together again this series with mccloskary and Farrell swaying in and out. Hope there isn't 15 changes next week I'd be looking for half the team from yesterday to start next week and the other half to start against Argentina .I'd also like to see Carbery and Murray start together and sexton and marmion to start against Argentina. I really do think these next two games is a chance to give Carbery, marmion and McGrath a good bit of game time. We need quality strength in depth in these positions.

Argentina, though limited, didn't look bad against a powerful England. We will need our main team, i.e Aki and Murray IMO.
