Aercap Ireland CEO appointed to Shannon Airport board (Irish Times)

Tom Kelly, chief executive of aircraft leasing business, Aercap Ireland, is joining the board of State-owned Shannon Group.

He previously served as the company’s chief financial officer. Before that, he worked for GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), where he was chief financial officer of its Irish operation, GECAS Ltd.

Shannon Group chairwoman, Rose Hynes, said Mr Kelly provides us with the type of expertise and experience that is required to deliver our strategic vision for the group.

Clare man is new President of European Regions Airline Association (Clare Herald)

Andrew Kelly from Shannon has been elected President of the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) which represents 53 carriers, 22 airports (including Shannon) and 124 aviation companies comprising aircraft and aircraft engine manufacturers.

Mr Kelly, who is Director Corporate Affairs for ASL Aviation Group.

ASL operates several transatlantic routes from Shannon and Dublin for Aer Lingus as well as cargo services for FedEx, DHL and UPS. The company also has a maintenance at Shannon Airport.

ASL has 6 European airlines in Ireland, France, Belgium, Hungary, Switzerland and Spain and operates 140 cargo and passenger aircraft ranging from the turbo prop to Boeing 747 Freighters.

It's actually half of that, as it counts both inbound and outbound passengers, so it's 117 out of 244 passengers. LF of less than 50%

The LH A319 fits 138 passengers to my understanding, more like 84% however very good load factor!

No worries, I was probably looking at the wrong seat map. Hopefully we see an increase in services from them next year. We need a big name like Lufthansa at the airport

Sadly seems no change from last year as of yet.

Think it was the middle of November last yr when they released their summer schedule so theres still hope. Just done a dummy booking for FRA-SNN on the 28th of April next. 91 seats reserved out of 138! Healthy forward bookings

Ryanair cut Stansted from 16pw to 12pw.

A weakening sterling has caused a large dropoff of UK tourism to Ireland, hence the drop in traffic from the UK. Other routes were lucky to maintain numbers.

@airlivenet: UPDATE #AF178 diverted to SNN due to med emergency but suffered fuel leak after probable fuel dumping process

Runway closed nearly 2 hours later, reopening within next 10 minutes. Several aircraft due for takeoff now, and one private jet holding north east of Shannon.

Have to agree ...... It's not the sort of aircraft you would think they would have sitting around waiting for an emergency but I saw the replacement coming in over my house with my own eyes and was truly impressed ....

The Goose Bay 380 has really turned into a bit of a disaster ..... stuck out in the wilds with not only a busted engine but who knows what other damage may or may not have been caused to the structure of the aircraft ....

Anyway, Shannon did a good job as usual, on the diversion .....
