I would have thought 29 is getting on for a halfback. If they haven't become a regular international by 29, they probably aren't going to be. I'm not saying they are over the hill at that stage. Just that they will be emergency cover only.

depends on how early that 9 starting getting regular playing time IMO.

You can all find "good reasons" or "live with it" but McCartney ahead of Herring and TOH ahead of Keaney(s)/Byrne is common sense. Considereing Farrell (Chris) as limited is, too

Because I can't find any crocked throw, and have seen very rare knock-ons, stable scrum, good carries, 90+% tackling rate, runs etc. on a constant basis for 3 years. Their counterparts (Herr/Byrne), assuming they have the same stats, have these for 3 months...

So, you drop a guy with 50-caps as a way of building for the future... and you replace him with an uncapped guy who's a year older?

The TOH thing is done to death. When he learns how to defend, he'll be back. [For the same reasons, I wouldn't have picked Adam Byrne]

Adam Byrne's defense has actually been improved this season up to the Monty game. People are letting one single game colour their opinions of him, whereas the Irish coaching staff won't do that. The same was true of Dave Kearney who was constantly referred to as a bad defender because of one game, despite the opposite being true.

It was Earls. Conway ended up covering his wing in defence in the second half when Leinster were in position to put in a contestable kick.

Maybe for that try, apart from that did well. Which is an improvement.

He's improving though which is important, I reckon it'll be a strength of his before we know it. Coachable guys are extremely valuable and always end up getting the benefit of the doubt, we saw the same with Earls.

I'm certainly not.

As noted above, he was poor against Munster too, roasted against Montpelier and then dropped against Glasgow... and this was continuing on a theme from last season.

He did look to have improved and I'm delighted he's been called up but he has to keep improving or he won't get many caps.

Poor against Munster? Nah

One moment in a match does not make a poor performance. He was solid, and that was continuing on a theme from this season. And now he's been rewarded for that improvement. If he was as poor this season as you're suggesting he would continue to be ignored by national selectors.
