All-new Peugeot 5008 SUV

Pictures and write up here but I think this is a fantastic looking seven-seater. A complete redesign from the previous version. So much so that I'm surprised that they called it a 5008.

It will also include a fold-up electric bike that is stored in a slot in the boot!!

It will be interesting to see how much it is here.

That sounds like they're not "adaptive" like Ford's - which is the feature where the lights actually turn left or right in conjunction with the steering to improve illumination around corners.

It's a neat feature, but IMO not in itself as beneficial as the overall clearer and improved illumination that the LED lights themselves bring.

Cornering headlights are nice alright, but that's not what I was referring to either...

LED technology allows to precisely control the light stream - like in the video below...

I would gladly pay €2k to have those, I find this a huge innovation. But if they don't do that - another gimmick IMHO.

I have just watched a few demos for i-cockpit and it seems it is missing some obvious personalisation options. I for instance would like to swap the revolution dial to the more conventional direction and have navigation between full size dials. Like this:

I personally would go for 1.2 EAT6 Allure + Keyless Start (for €450 on French configurator).

I spend quite some trying to find a video that shows how the headlights work, but nothing really available. I think you are right, they are not really adaptive, but just cornerning.

Gt and GT-line have more options than the other versions about icockpit configuration.

GT-Line bring i-cockpit amplify. I was thinking that is the 12.3" display - but it is the perfume sprayer... Oh lord - money well spent

We just don't have the full breakdown of the specifications, colours etc. Unfortunately it seems the 5008 does not have the colours of the 3008, I was really looking forward to a dark red one, these seems to be the available ones:

Thanks. Prices exclude delivery and related charges plus 600 for metallic I'm sure. Gt line about 39600 euro roughly

That video also shows the 5008 with a much nicer bright interior that seems to be unavailable at the moment.

Finally got a chance to pop into Windsor Airside tohave a look, didn't like it at all. The colour put me off at first (horrible bottle green) the fabric interior was terrible too, very dated and the cockpit wasn't great either. I was very disappointed and didn't even bother asking for a test drive or anything, so I think I can strike that off my list.

This model is the entry level in some countries. Who ever was responsible for getting these in doesn't believe in 'put one's best foot forward'. Couldn't be ar$sed to go see it in this guise tbh.

I agree that green is not the greatest, and the car looks so much better on the next level. To be honest the colours (although not yet verified for Ireland) are a bit disappointing.

Edit: They look an exact copy of the 3008 ones, even in some cases they have left saying 3008 lol.

Colours: I am disappointed, I was really looking forward for a red one, the selection is a bit dull.

Really leaning towards this from a practicality stand point...3 seats in the middle row etc.

Wife hates the look of it but rhen surprisinfly likes the discovery sport which to me is identical but duller...if that makes sense.

When the order come in. All the demos are the same lowish spec, which doesn't help selling the car at all.

I'm not sure what other dealers are like but we are struggling to get concrete information about when they are expecting a GT line in as a demo.

Because they simply don't know, but in a very Chinese way they don't want to admit that.

So found my wife and I driving close enough to Rathangan to warrant a quick look at the new 5008, in spite of what I said earlier, I dropped in.
They have two, Nimbus Grey and Cumulus Grey, one Manual and one Auto, both Active edition. First off they were straight up, 'haven't a clue' was the popular answer to most questions, which was fair enough.
The Car itself was a tempered somewhat surprised and pleased. Without a shadow of a doubt it seemed well built, solid closing doors and all things seemed well baked in and sturdy, in contrast to the 5008 MPV of old.
The Boot seemed smaller than our current one, but if it is smaller or bigger we are talking marginal. The second row seats actually seemed smaller at first but I think they are just squared off and are very tight with each other, I'd harvest a bet they are the exact same size. The leg room was massively improved and there is loads of it, even with driving seat in optimal position, big and clear difference here, extended wheelbase has really helped. I did note though that the seats are now pushed back further also, so seat 6 and 7 have zero leg room without pushing the other seats forward a bit, but there is plenty to work with. Everything else in row 2 and 3 is standard PSA Group affair. This car is very much a 5+2 car, but I knew that.
Up front was comfortable, btw, I thought the seat fabric was fine and overall good for a near entry level car, no complaints there. There was no felt in the Door bins ala VW, none on the Allure 3008 alongside it either. In the Carwow review they mention felt as a welcome addition but the review was based on a GT Line I think, but none here. Centre cubby seemed just OK build wise, but seemed low, too low for me to rest my arm on it and doesn't raise (Im 5'10"),gear stick on manual and auto was a nice affair and both the mouldings and trim all seemed like good quality and well built, giving them a good shake seemed to confirm that as best I could.
The iCockpit and Infotainment was far quicker than expected and seemed reasonably high res, if not poorly chosen icons, just a bit bland. But overall it was better than I thought and very easy to use. I had phone paired and Android Auto running in seconds with no issue at all. The radio was quickly pre-configured with 6-8 stations with colourful icons. iCockpit itself was slick and modern looking, fears allayed here about it being a bit sub-standard.
Outside the car looked just ok, but is really lacking in detail, large dull black side bumpers doesn't do this car justice, but this changes with different trims, and the Active trim really doesn't do the car any good, I'd say Allure sees a marked improvement, but I think GT Line is where its at tbh. I think they should have chosen a more Satin Polished Black for outside mouldings. Nimbus Grey is nice (silvery grey look).
Interestingly there is a Discovery Sport alongside it, and boy is this car flattering to deceive, cheap plastic, rubbish infotainment, and smaller interior (nice leather seats tho) and this is the bloody HSE model!!!
Roll on the GT Line and I think you will have a nice/very nice well built car with lots of spec.
Didn't test drive and didn't ask about what engines were in them, I assumed, perhaps wrongly that both are 1.6D. BTW, when getting into 2nd row I whacked my head and I did notice that when sitting in outside seats that the car juts in a bit, so if you were to lean over slightly, and I mean slightly your head hits the side of this, its not the roof, but more the vertical sloping part of the roof, if that makes sense. This car had no Pan roof either.
I'm going to take the Auto for a spin pretty soon, so I'll feedback then.

Went for a test drive in a Skoda Kodiaq today, 2.0 TDI 150BHP Style model with 7 seats.

I've recently test drove the 5008 and there is no comparison for me. My wife put it best, the 5008 just felt "Tinny". The Skoda felt a lot more solid, and whilst the spec and extras come in 3k above the GT Line the Skoda is worth the extra bang for the buck.

I just felt a lot more steady in the Skoda and it handled well.

It's a shame about the lead time but I reckon I'll put in an order in the next few weeks for the Skoda.
